Title: Stuck at Google Screen won't do anything HELP
Post by: Cr8zyJay on June 12, 2014, 06:14:47 AM
Ok I'm pretty good with Windows but I know nothing at all about Android. So I got this tablet off a site the guy said it needed a new motherboard which I never heard of. He said he didn't do anything to it it just stopped loading one day.

So I go all over and find all the little tricks to try and make it work. I did the power and volume button thing. I tried to reset it with the Rootkit program. I even tried to get SDK but that won't run on my PC for some reason.

Anyway what is happening is the tablet gets stuck on the Google word. I see nothing before that and it stays on that forever. I waited 15 minutes and nothing. When I try the rootkit program it gets stuck when it tries to reboot. The tablet just never turns back on. I can get it to boot into the bootloader screen. But nothing after that is functional. So what are my options here? If any. I'm hoping I can fix it. I am pretty quick at picking stuff up but this one is really stumping me.

Any help or advice or direction would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Ok so when I do the Soft Brick Flash Stock + Unroot everything works up until the command prompt attempts to reboot. It turns off and never turns back on  The last paragraph of the cmd prompt reads as follows and is what may be the issue. It reads

sending 'bootloader' <2100kb>
FAILED <remote: Bootloader is locked.>
finished. total time:0.145s
rebooting into bootloader...
OKAY [ 0.020s]

So I'm thinking it has something to do with this FAILED section as everything else works with no issues. Also after this I'm stuck at the < waiting for device > and my tablet doesn't power back on. I have a 100% charge and did all the driver stuff first.

Any ideas?????

Which toolkit? Can you try to unlock the bootloader. Fastboot OEM unlock.

Windows 8? I've heard of Win8 driver problems, but none with Win7. Has to be Wugfresh's toolkit, as Skipsoft doesn't have a soft brick undo option.

Use a Windows 7 computer, a USB 2.0 port that's directly connected to the motherboard, and run the "fastboot devices" command to be sure your device is recognized. Then try the "fastboot oem unlock" command.

Your on the money! I only have Windows 8 and yes that is the Root Kit I'm using. I'm going to try this oem unlock manually but I'm unable to get Android SDK to load. I download every available option from the website and when I go to load it the cmd prompt opens then closes right away :(

Well, you have to get the device connected and in recovery first. Should say fastboot mode at the bottom. If it isn't seen with ' fastboot devices' then drivers, port, cable. Find the SDK sub folder with the fastboot and adb commands, shift right click to open a command prompt in that folder.

I can get into the menu with the little android guy on his back with his chest open. My options are Start, Recovery, Restart Bootloader and Power Down. I'm unable to get to any other screens.

Also I'm running Windows 8 and it won't run the SDK files from the Android Dev Site. I'm at a real loss on this one!

That's it, should be some small copy on that screen starting with fastboot mode in red. I'll search for win8 drivers.

I can manually get it to reboot with command prompt but only in that menu I can't access anything else. I've tried to unlock the bootloader and it gives me an error. Everything I try when the tablet goes to reboot it just stays off. Or it goes right back to that Google screen and freezes.

Ok I got my hands on a Windows 7 Laptop. The driver says Google Nexus Bootloader. What command should I be typing in? It's not my computer but I can download from a flash drive any files I would need. Any help would be great as Wugfresh still isn't working for anything even on the Windows 7

You'll need the SDK on that computer for the fastboot command.

First, did you try a factory reset from recovery? From boot loader choose recovery, then there's the android on its back with no command. Next hold pwr and  momentarily press volume up.

Google Nexus 7 2013 Hard Factory Reset Bootloader…: http://youtu.be/VV1ffMCXRg4

Here's a video. If the recovery screen looks different I.e. no copy for fastboot mode and model info post back.

If the skipsoft toolkit doesn't work, there's wugfresh toolkit. This is the 2012 nexus 7 correct?
From off hold pwr and vol down for boot loader menu. Cycle to recovery with vol and press pwr. This the no command screen. Hold pwr press vol up for recovery menu.

If factory reset doesn't get you past the Google logo bootloop, the SDK/platform tools folder contains the fastboot command. There's a way to install the right driver from the SDK or you can try a toolkit if Win7 doesn't install the right one when you connect it to the tablet in fastboot mode. Then you check with fastboot devices, unlock with fastboot OEM unlock, and download the correct factory image for your device, drop it into platform tools, unzip it twice and run flashall.bat. or a toolkit will automate this.

Yep tried all of the above and nothing. It will not boot up after the toolkits or sdk cmd prompt forces the reboot. Also when I try to unlock my boot loader I receive a

 FAILED <remote: <Unknown error code>>

That unknown error is what the problem is and that is where it would tell me the bootloader is locked when I was trying to flash original onto it. Like I said I'm new to Android but pretty fast at learning. I know that I have tried everything I could find online on both the Win8 and Win7 PC. I'm wondering if it's a hardware issue. Still would love to get to the bottom of it. It will reboot ONLY in fastboot mode. Nothing else. Not recovery nothing... >:(

Well since you got the android boot loader interface driver and it makes it past the bootload stage to the Google logo, I would think that the boot loader is not corrupt, which is about the only hard brick I've heard of. So try multiple cables and ports and possibly a linux partition. Did fastboot devices return an alphanumeric string followed by fastboot?

I'm not sure what you mean by front port and the usb are all 2.0

Also it says the following when I do the soft bricked restore from Wug rootkit
sending 'bootloader' <2100kb>
FAILED <remote: Bootloader is locked.>
finished. total time:0.145s
rebooting into bootloader...
OKAY [ 0.020s]

But the OEM unlock says failed to unknown error

It does say a bunch of stuff about clearing cache and things like that but none of this is on the tablet it's on my PC. So it's possible it's the cable I got? What specs of a usb cable should I look for?

Front ports usually aren't directly connected to the motherboard..

If your bootloader is unlocked, you'll see an unlocked padlock icon below the word "Google" as your N7 boots.

The front ports on a tower PC have long internal cables of dubious quality to the motherboard header. Rear ports next to the lan and KB etc are part of the MB and should work better. A good quality cord should look be a little thicker because of larger gauge wire. I've got a number of cheap cables that don't work well. The original cable usually works, if you've got it. USB 2.0 type A to usb micro.
There are options in recovery to wipe the cache and dalvik cache on the tablet, but if you can't access recovery with the button presses already mentioned, there may be a corrupted nand chip. Birdastrompgman has a thread on here where he replaced his main board. If you can't get fastboot to flash an image, reformatting the nand memory in the process.

I just saw your post on XDA Developers. You didn't tell us it doesn't do anything after you unlock the bootloader. That indicates a corrupted bootloader. Check that by installing the universal naked APX drivers to your PC and see if it's recognized as an APX device.

So I downloaded and installed the new drivers as I can see them on my USB drivers list (APX) but my laptop still will only recognize the tablet as a Android Device-Google Nexus Bootloader.

Also when I go to unlock it I keep getting that unknown error message as to why it's failed. So even though the bootloader says it's unlocking the SDK on my Laptop says it failed. At that point the tablet freezes. Either in the bootloader screen stating it is unlocking or if using a root toolkit at the rebooting of the tablet it never turns back on.

Where you say  did all the button presses and everything, does that include getting to the recovery menu and doing  factory reset?

If you can't get the boot loader unlocked, I don't think you can flash a new boot loader or factory image.

However, from recovery you may be able to side load an ota without unlocking, unsure.

Ok here is my update on what's going on. I did everything this site has said http://theunlockr.com/2012/09/21/how-to-hard-reset-a-bricked-nexus-7-with-your-pc/ (http://theunlockr.com/2012/09/21/how-to-hard-reset-a-bricked-nexus-7-with-your-pc/)

And everything works great until I get to the unlock part. Everything goes perfect until I get to the Unlocking and I get that FAILED <remote <unknown error>> message. So I tried to update and everything on that seemed to work until it said FAILED Bootloader version 4.23 Update needs version 3.XX (can't remember the XX numbers)

So my question to you is what update image do I need for the 4.23 bootloader? Could this possibly solve the issue?

Also when I try to go into recovery mode it does one of two things. 1)powers down and stays off   or 2) powers down turns back on and doesn't get past the word Google with no picture of a lock at the bottom.

Hoping this will give you a bit more clarification as to what's going on. Let me know. Thanks

Side load is in  recovery, which isn't working. I saw a thread on XDA somewhere that some of the factory images have bad bootloaders. I didn't think you could flash without first unlocking but it seems to be trying to? Get the latest 4.4.3 image for your device, is it flo or deb or an LTE model? The above link is using 4.1.1!

Right this seems like the answer to my dilemma BUT how do I go about wiping the bootloader and installing a new one? I tried using the newest zip file and of course was greeted with FAILED bootloader locked. I at least know now that I have the right software package. But I'm still stuck with this darn bootloader that isn't working correctly. If you can think of anything let me know. I can at least search easier for a solution now that I know what it is!!
