Title: Creating document on NExus with wi fi off and moving
Post by: billinthewild on August 10, 2012, 12:54:05 AM
I cannot always be in contact with wi fi.   I would like a program where I could create a document  and the copy and paste it to a Drive document when wi fi is connected. Possible?

How about using "Write" to do the same thing?

What about 'Documents To Go' or 'QuickOffice' (both can be found in the Google Play store).  Either should let you create a doc without Wi-Fi.  You can then open it up in google docs if you want and save it on Google Drive or DropBox or whatever you use.

I went to install it and for the version that will connect to Google Docs it costs 14.99.  That does not bother me if it will in fact transfer the document (would be my daily journal when on the road) I prepare to Google Drive.....I would save it on Google Docs and then when I get a wi fi connection would move it over.... BUT, do I need to be connected to wi fi to use it to write...or can I write when off line and then go on line to transfer?

Many thanks   (this is all very new to me)

If you want to make sure it does exactly what you're looking for you can always email or contact the developers.   I'm 99% sure you don't need to be connected to Wi-Fi to create documents however.

With Documents to Go, you can create and edit documents as local files and later choose "Save As" and save it to Google Docs, but it will not update or replace a previous version, instead it gives you two documents with the same file name but a different time stamp, which to me becomes a horror to manage. If you can trust Google's cloud, your better option is the Google Drive App for your tablet. Marking a file as available "Offline" will place an editable version on your tablet. Once you are reconnected to WiFi you can "synchronize" your edited "Offline" document with Google Drive and have the document updated in your Google Docs. I will create a step by step guide, if there is enough interest in Google Doc Sync.

A step - by-step guide sounds interesting.

I was actually planning on doing a little front page article in the next few days on Google Drive and Google Docs so maybe we can coordinate that with a 'step-by-step guide' for doc creation, S. Prime.

If BFM will lead off with the front page article focusing on Google Drive and Google Docs and I will be glad to follow up with a guide, but bear with me as I explore the usage of Google Drive and develop a proper guide.
