Title: Rooted Nexus - Google Updates
Post by: fred kaz on August 20, 2012, 03:27:20 PM
Hi All,

Just a quick question please,  I have rooted my Nexus and all seems well.  What I want to know is will the Google apps (Maps, YouTube etc) still update?

Also if Google issue any Jelly Bean updates, will these still be downloaded striaght to the machine and update?

I have also been reading about Custom Roms,  Do these have anything extra compaired to the original Jelley Bean OS which was originally issued on the tab?

If the custom roms are better than the original OS which rom would you recommend?

Cheers,

Fred :-[

Rooting will not block any app updates and yes you will receive the JB updates, but as a rule I protect root with OTA RootKeeper from Google Play, as OTA's can remove root. As for custom ROM's, I use them to remove bloatware and give my device a facelift as it ages, but I do not find the Nexus 7 overloaded with bloatware and it still feels new to me. I may explore some of the custom ROM's as they reach maturity, but right now I plan to utilize the advantages of root and stay with JB.
