Post by: Babyfacemagee on August 21, 2012, 10:50:59 AM
Hello everyone,  I'm happy to announce that Jason, aka JayJ on the forums has offered to be one of our Global Moderators.   JayJ has been making some outstanding contributions to the forum and has actually helped moderate a number of previous Android phone communities in the past.   JayJ is based in the UK, of which we have a growing number of members.  I'm looking forward to working with him as we continue to build out the forum.  Thanks JayJ!

Welcome Jay.  Thanks in advance for doing a thankless job.  I've only been a member for a short time, but I'm liking it here.  So far no flame wars and very little spam.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, thanks to BFM for letting me loose with Moderator status! lol
I'm very happy to be here and helping the Nexus 7 Forums grow and mature.

I've been an Android user for a few years now and most of what I've learnt is from the community so it's nice to give something back to the community.

If anybody wants to chat, ask for advice or anything, feel free to hit me up with a PM.

Look forward to speaking with you all.

Jason.

Welcome to the forums JayJ.

First question.

Why do you have in your details the statement "Task killers are not necessary on Android, avoid them" ??

What is your reasoning behind this statement please ??

Just a curious Android user who has a Task Killer installed on all of my Android devices.

TIA.

Thanks CBers!

In answer to your question, I believe Android doesn't need task killers because the Android OS does a good enough job of managing itself.
Android isn't like Windows, it doesn't need free RAM to open applications, the OS will close something to source RAM for a user requested application.
Some believe that Task Killers set to kill tasks, services and processes save battery but that's not right, in fact it's probably just the opposite...
Your Task Killer kills, Android restarts, Task Killer kills, Android restarts, Task Killer kills.....

So what do you think that does to your battery?

The only use a Task Killer can have is to kill rogue apps, some apps don't have an exit and keep running so you can kill them with a Task Killer or in settings, "Apps" and force stop them.

Your very welcome, it won't be long before your sharing the knowledge that you've learnt and that's the way it should be.

Thank you, JayJ.
