Title: USB port
Post by: curlyboy on August 27, 2012, 03:10:15 AM
Hi, can I access data and images from a USB stick? If this is possible can someone please tell me as I bought N7 specifically to enable me to read data from USB, namely a data base of aire de camping cars, whilst traveling in France when I don't have internet access.
thanks

You'll need a connecting cable and this app:

Please use the forum search function before posting questions like this because there are at least two other threads with topic relating to this one.

Thanks.

Hello

I just bought an OTG cable off Amazon, and downloaded an App called Nexus Media Importer. Total spend about £5, and I can now play media from a USB pen. Job Done!
Also recently saw a 32gig pen drive for £11.50 on Offtek website, so I think I'll get one of those and I can around a good chunk of content.
Enjoy your nexus!

OK, for fear of starting another (unwanted) topic about this, I thought I'd post my question here.

I have the requisite USB OTG cable and to this I attached the card reader that holds my camera card. Then I downloaded the Nexus Media Importer and the accompanying photo viewer. OK. Now I can see my photos on the Nexus7, however I cannot do any file management  functions with the memory card, for example, deleting selected photos or setting up folders.

When I tried copying multiple photos from the card onto my Nexus, the Nexus Media Importer crashed. And when I finally got some photos onto the Nexus and wanted to manage them using ES File Explorer, then ES kept crashing--something it hasn't done with anything else.

Help, please!

All I want to be able to do is upload my photos from the card, and then be able to copy, delete, upload to Shutterfly (or anywhere), organize them, etc.

Is this not possible without rooting the device? It seems like it'd be so simple, but so far it hasn't even been possible!

I have to admit that I'm very wary of rooting my Nexus, since I need it for practical reasons and I don't want it crashing (or dying!) because I've mucked around with it.

Thanks in advance for your help. Much appreciated!

Now my tablet is rooted, but I did find this on one of the other forums (XDA Developers).  Even though it costs three bucks, it appears that it would do what you are asking.

I think I have screwed up a few links as well, so I have corrected it or at least I think I have. :-[

Thank you for fixing the link.  I tries to do it from my tablet, and managed to totally messed it up.
