Title: Simple charger question
Post by: betsy777 on September 01, 2012, 02:32:52 PM
Just purchased my Nexus 7 3 days ago and so far love it.  Time for another charge and .. one of us has misplaced the charger and cable.

I 'd rather not use up the 14 day return policy waiting for the mail so would rather not order one.   But, I can't locate the charger/cable in metro Atlanta.  And, nowhere can I find the specs.    I know very little about this but do know I must be careful not to try charging it with something that would fry the unit.     If I went to our local BestBuy, etc. does anyone know what I could purchase?

Also, on the subject of charging; work takes me to Italy soon.  Can I just use my wall outlet adapter plug and the cable and charger that comes with the Nexus 7?
Thanks

You want a charger that inputs 110V-240V AC and outputs 5V DC up to 2.0A to a USB female port, plus a male USB to male mini-USB cable.  Avoid chargers that are designed for Apple iPhones, as they output 2.1A to Apple devices, but only 0.5A to non-Apple devices.

If your charger inputs 110V-240V AC, then all you'll need for Italy is the appropriate 2 or 3 round prong male adapter plug with a female US socket on the back. If you can only find a 110V-120V AC charger for US use, buy it, and get a step-down converter to input European 220V-240V AC and output 110V-120V AC.

Thanks for the information. Just what I wanted to know.
