I think the best apps for the N7 are the ones that you download and use.  If 100 people list the best apps, you'll have a 100 different lists.  You can probably get better information if you'd ask "what is the best app for . . ."

The apps I use most often is MX Player and ES File Explorer.

Exactly.  There's tons of 'best of Android app' lists all over the net but it really comes down to what you plan on doing with your tablet.     There's several threads on this forum that talk about different apps that people use.  I'd browse the forum...especially the 'apps' board and you'll see a lot of chatter and advice about different apps for different purposes.

I'd also recommending thumbing through all the past front page articles. (http://nexus7forum.com/index.php?board=1.0)  I highlight at least one or two apps each week and by this time I've covered a lot of very popular apps and games of all types for the Nexus 7.  I'll continue to do that all year long.

Thanks for that list JayJ, I have just ordered my nexus 7 (my first tablet) so searching and having a read of these apps should get me started :)

Congratz on ordering yourself a Nexus 7 ORDER 66!

I would revise that list a little now since the 4.2.1 update, Power Toggles is unneeded now with the addition of Quick Settings. I also don't use QuickPic or the MoDaCo Camera launcher anymore, personal preference.

I would also add to that list...

Apps

AirDroid
Battery Widget? Reborn!
Beautiful Widgets
Falcon Pro (if you use Twitter)
Flipboard
Tunein Radio
xScope Pro

Games

Angry Birds
GTA Vice City
Rayman Jungle Run
Shadow Gun: DeadZone
Wild Blood
Zombie Driver

Root

AdAway
ROM Manager
Sixaxis Controller
StickMount
Titanium Backup
Voodoo OTA RootKeeper
