Title: Please help Discharging..??
Post by: miseryguts on September 07, 2012, 05:10:32 AM
I'm a new user so apologies if this is incredibly stupid.
I just received my unit & have plugged in the USB charger & all it's doing is discharging.. I hope it's something I'm doing wrong & not a faulty unit.

Thanks.

Fortunately, it's probably a faulty charger . You should call Google support for a replacement.

Ive been searching for a simular issue on the forum; mine does the same, but  I found that if i pressed on the tablet (firmly) above the usb port that it would "connect" and charge... obvious damage or defect and am going to have to try and replace it. Not saying that is whats wrong with yours, but it sounded the same. Hope you find a fix.

Just thought I would add to this,

When I first got it I used it to around 20% then plugged it in, I noticed it had gone down 1-2% but I thought it would take a few minutes to kick in. I turned it off when I went to bed and kept the charger plugged in. Woke up this morning and it is completely dead. Have borrowed someone else's Nexus 7 charger and nothing. Kindle charger nothing, iPhone charger nothing.

Have contacted Asus and the store I bought it from, will be replacing it within 3-5 days.

Normally, my Nexus 7 charges fine. Twice, however, it's gone crazy.  Once Facebook took the battery down to 6‰ while sleeping, and barely let it charge while on.  Another time, the Torque app took the battery to 0% even though the Nexus 7 was plugged in and charging.

Both times the Android OS was hogging 30+‰ of the battery.

I've found that the micro usb port isn't very secure.  The slightest movement of the Nexus, or brush against the cable, can break contact and cease charging.  Could that be the issue?

My Nexus 7 isn't that sensitive. I can wiggle the USB charger cable & it doesn't break connection.

Movement in the micro usb port sounds like it has broken free from the board, which BTW is quite common with the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet.
