JohnJ: very sure... I didn't think 16gb versions had anything but Wi-Fi. Is there a way for me to check just in case?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: mobile app/mobile data on? I don't have any?!« on: January 02, 2013, 06:55:47 PM »
Tiny: no, I've used nothing but play/amazon. And the mobile app isn't NORMALLY listed. It popped up, and then it was gone. In fact, it looked like what JayJ posted, especially the pic.
On a related note, I use an HTC one v for a sort of media/mp3 player(it has android). The battery drainage was crazy in a way it wasn't before. Most of the used energy was " cellular standby", which elsewhere referenced a cell " radio". After turning on airplane mode it's fine, and the mobile data switch days it's off because airplane mode turned off the radio signal. Which is interesting, because I've never bought a phone plan for it, so the htc doesn't have " mobile data". So then when I see similar crap and power drain occur on my nexus 7 16gb, and smart quick settings insists the nexus has mobile data permanently on, I've got to wonder.. 3
Nexus 7 General Discussion / mobile app/mobile data on? I don't have any?!« on: January 01, 2013, 03:55:39 PM »
On settings for battery, an app called " mobile app" with a blue phone next to it popped up add using energy. I can't find it now. I might think it was a fluke but Smart Quick Settings tells me I have a switch that says " mobile data connected". I can turn it off, but if I go back, moments later it's back on.
I might consider it coincidence, maybe it's always been there, but I didn't see stuff like that until my battery drain stated to get bad. I've got a 16 GB nexus, it doesn't have any mobile data! Also, airplane mode/NFC off doesn't seem to do much about the battery drain, that's not it. So anyway, what's this mobile app/immortal mobile data stuff if I don't have a data model nexus? 4

Well, the check next to NFC disappears when I activate airplane mode.

Bjs229: yeah, I saw a thread where someone implied it was drop kicked...?!
Well if anything I can confirm it's not just you, and there have been some reports of people having problems after the update. Matt, doesn't. Airplane mode kill NFC..? I've had airplane mode on since yesterday, and can't see a reduction in power usage. It's on right now! 6

Asleep, it still charges around 25%, no Wi-Fi.
I've heard the battery gets crappy for a week after updates, but I think this started a bit after my last update. And it has gone on longer than a week. 7
Nexus 7 Help / Battery problems« on: December 16, 2012, 02:03:52 PM »
So I've been having battery drain issues over the last 10 days.
I read through this thread, and downloaded OS Monitor, but nothing is jumping out at me, and I still don't know what I'm doing: http://nexus7forum.com/nexus-7-help/a-raw-newbie-with-a-couple-of-questions/ I also downloaded the smart quick settings app. I normally leave the screen brightness as low as possible unless the charger is connected while I'm using it. I never turn on Bluetooth, and I turn Wi-Fi of if not using it. I try to be very conservative with energy, but around 10 days ago I noticed a big drain one day, while off- charger and on Wi-Fi. I thought maybe it was over, but I'm still having trouble. Friday night I finally began notating the drops, and how slow it charges now. I've deleted all apps I downloaded the day I noticed it, and a few other ones besides. I bought my tablet mid September and until recently, just reading Pocket, PDFs, etc with no Wi-Fi on used about 7% an hour. WiFi web browsing was about 10%. If using web while charging, it works usually gain about 14%ish an hour despite Wi-Fi on. In sleep mode (which I use more than turning it off), it gained about 25% poet hour of charging, asleep with WiFi off. But now I lose anywhere from a quarter to a third more energy, WiFi or not! Seems to use about 10% or slightly more, even reading offline. Wi-Fi browsing is probably 14% or more now. The first day I noticed it, I was using Wi-Fi/discharging for 3 hours. Before, that would have put me down to around 70% from a full charge, but instead I was at 61/62%. Smart quick settings points me toward " Android task manager" when I try to see what tasks are running. I don't know if it would be anymore helpful than OS Monitor. It also says cellular data is on, but I assume that's a weird fluke, since I'm on a 16gb n7 with no such plan/ability. 8

1. Nope, not rooted. I've been wary of that and possible consequences given my tech ignorance.
2. The cord is OTG, yes. I really an amazon review claiming the guy could read files straight from his USB stick using it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GI2VMG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 3. Yes, I want to go straight from nexus to MP3 player, if possible. My computer is inoperable. 11

Or another device I suppose.
I have a cable I got for 83 cents that can connect the nexus to the Sylvania. And the Sylvania MP3 player recognizes a connection and begins charging from the nexus 7. But that's not what I want, and the things I thought would send the song to the MP3 player just did other things instead. 12

Ahhhhh...you know I forgot about theYahoo/Google connection.
Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll research them shortly. How do I avoid the problem oa being "caught"? How do avoid repercussions from Google? I'm not sure what the difference it makes being able to view the video offline' as I don't have Wi fi at home.
