Tried after considerable thought to root via toolkit.
All seemed to go well [although I wasn't sure when it kept saying 'waiting to reboot, if I should press the on off button, which I did] however when checking with Root Checker, it tells me I do not have root access. Think I best leave alone as I will end up bricking this one too 8

I am worried because I totally bricked my galaxy tab whilst trying a flash upgrade. I am not that good with computers.
I only use Ubuntu as main laptop operating system and already I am unable to get the laptop to connect with my new Tablet despite trying workarounds that I have read. My dilemma is that I want to use a memory stick and I understand the N7 needs rooting? I am uneasy about this but cant see how I could anyway as I cant connect the N7 to a pc? Is there a one click solution I could download on to the device? 9

Appreciate that. However can I get the N7 to easily recognise a memory stick? 10
Nexus 7 Help / Cant connect to Laptop running Ubuntu« on: November 04, 2012, 05:13:03 AM »
Hello
COMPLETE computer illiterate here! so much so, that I am now the proud owner of the Nexus7 32GB after totally destroying my Galaxy Tab in trying to upgrade the software to ICS, I vow not to root or upgrade this one other than offered downloads. However I am so disappointed that I cant connect to my laptop running Ubuntu. It was not a problem with the Galaxy tab so I am baffled. Is there an easy fix? and I mean EASY Hope you can help, as I might try and get my money back and get another SaMSUNG
