Nexus 7 Help / How to create email folders?« on: December 27, 2012, 08:42:04 AM »
On my Nexus I sync my email from Comcast. I notice that when email is then downloaded to MS Ourlook on my computer messages are removed from the inbox on the Nexus (which makes sense because the message is transferred to MS Outlook and removed from the Comcast server).
There are some messages that I would like to move to a “Save” folder on the Nexus. My question is how do I create a folder in the Nexus email app? Thanks, Jack 2
Nexus 7 Help / Calculator Inverse Trig functions« on: December 02, 2012, 10:22:03 AM »The calculator that comes with the Nexus 7 seems to be a nice mini scientific calculator, but there’s one thing I can’t figure out: How do you do the inverse functions (arcsine, arcos, etc.)? Looked, but can’t find any documentation on this. Thanks, Jack 3

The user guide on the Asus website looks like it's the Google doc (same book, different download location).

Yes I've read the Nexus 7 guide that came with the device. I'm looking for something a bit (actually a lot) more in depth. Does anyone have any recommendations? I don't want to buy without first having some idea of its contents.
Again, thanks everyone for your replies. Jack 5

Yes, that did it. Thanks.
Do you have a recommendation for a good book that explains the Nexus 7 in some depth? Thanks again. 6

On the Location Access screen, the slider is on, and I can change it. The GPS and Wi-Fi checkboxes are also checked. Also, as I said above, the slider on the Google apps location screen is Off and disabled (grayed out).

Nexus 7 Help / Question about GPS and the Navigation and Google Earth apps« on: November 26, 2012, 07:42:54 PM »
I’ve a question about GPS and the Navigation and Google Earth apps.
I open Navigation or Google Earth, and it tells me that I must the enable location. I click on Ok, and it opens the “Google apps location settings” screen. It is “Off” and the switch is disabled (grayed out). I click on the “Location access” button, and the “Location access” screen opens. On that screen, “Access to my location” is “On”, and both “GPS satellites” and “Wi-Fi & mobile networks location” are checked. The Android version is 4.2. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Jack 8

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Building apps?« on: November 21, 2012, 09:44:18 AM »
Hi,
I’m considering buying a Nexus 7, and posted a few general questions in the General Discussion forum. I’m a retired software engineer and now I’m thinking that it might be fun to make a couple of apps for the Nexus. Some questions first: 1) I see that there is a SDK available. Is it free? 2) What language are Android apps written in? 3) Do I need to root my Nexus in order to download/run my custom app? 4) Does the SDK have a built in development environment (editor, compiler/linker, debugger, etc.)? 5) Is debugging done before downloading using a simulator or on the device itself? Thanks, Jack 10

Thanks for the replies. At 3 MB for a 300 page book, it sounds like I could probably load half the Library of Congress on a 32 GB Nexus. That’s nice.
Regarding the file managers… Are they standard apps or do they require rooting. I’m not afraid of rooting (I’m a retired software engineer) but don’t want the hassle right now. I just want to keep it stock. I assume that with a file manager, I can create sub directories? Do most book readers allow navigation to sub directories, or do they do a search and put all books on the same level? I really want to keep each type of book on a separate “shelf” (sub directory) for better organization. I believe the B&N Nook-HD allows books to be organized in that way, that’s why I’m asking. Jack P.S. JayJ - No problem changing the color, didn't know it mattered. 11

Hi,
I’m considering buying a Nexus 7, but have a few questions first. I’ve been looking through this forum, and these are the few questions that I could not find an answer for. 1)Can books be saved in folders (book shelves maybe)? In other words, technical books in one, novels in another, nonfiction in a third, and so on. If so, can these folders be nested (i.e., have sub folders)? Would that be a function of the nexus or the book reader? 2)How much memory does a typical book require (downloaded do that I can read without Wi-Fi access)? I’m wondering if I should buy the 16 or 32 GB version. 3)Can installed apps be easily deleted? I.e., is it as simple as deleting the app, or is there cleanup required (equivalent of deleting dll’s, cleaning up registry entries, etc. on Windows). How about an app has been backed up to the “cloud”? I assume I have to delete it there also – correct? 4)Is the cable a standard USB cable? Can I use the same cable for connecting the device to the charger as to the computer? And can I use a standard USB car charger or do I need a special one? Will the device charge while connected to a computer? Thanks, Jack
