Never having owned a smartphone or tablet before, I figured it would take a little time to figure things out; and it has.

I got my 7.2 this past tues.  Once I figured out that I needed a file manager app (which I got for free at the google store) downloading music and video from my computer to my nexus was a piece of cake.

To connect my computer to my nexus I used the charging cord I got with the unit and it seems to transfer video at the same quality I see on my computer.  For music, once my computer and nexus were hooked up, I went to 'my computer' and located the nexus and clicked it.  And then it was as simple as drag and drop. Done

For my DVD's I downloaded Handbrake and transferred them to my computer in mp4 format.  And then proceeded to do the same thing I did for my music transfers.  I watched parts of the videos on my nexus to check for quality and they came out great.

I don't know what reason I need to get a $20-30 micro usb as the one that came with the unit seems to work fine. Am I missing something here?

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / got my nexus 7.2. Now what?
« on: July 30, 2013, 08:03:20 PM »
Received my 7.2 this afternoon.  Started it up and worked my way thru set-up.  Got my g-mail account and linked my credit card to enable purchases.  Wifi is working fine and the screen looks great.

During set-up, I believe the google services page,  there was a list of questions about gps and tracking of my unit etc.  I unchecked the 3 or 4 boxes, as I wasn't sure if I wanted that; however, one of the comments said just because I unchecked the box doesn't mean they won't be storing info from this unit.  Is this what others have done?  Or you checked all the boxes because it really didn't matter? What's the advantage/disadvantage?

Also, what's the one thing that I do not want to do as I am learning my nexus 7.2 (yes, I know the obvious things like I don't want to take a shower with it)?  And, what's the one thing I should definitely do as I am learning the 7.2? (certain apps etc.)

p.s. this is completely new to me.  I have never owned a tablet or a smart phone.

thanks,

I'm new to the world of nexus or any tablet. I should have a nexus 2nd generation in my hand 7/30 via best buy and UPS. I currently have a mobile family plan with Verizon, and I am considering upgrading to a Samsung S4--my first smart phone.  I've read that I can use a S4 as a hotspot to connect my nexus to the internet.  I'm interested if anyone here has experience with this, and what their experience was.  Thanks for any help.

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / help

I hope I have found the right place.  This is my first tablet (nexus 7.2) and I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions.  According to UPS, I will receive my tablet on 7/30.  Hope everybody enjoys their new 7.2, as I am sure I will.

I pre-ordered mine thru best buy.  I received an email today advising me that my nexus 7.2 was sent today, along with a tracking# from UPS.  I note was included from best buy that the release date had been changed from 7/30 to 7/26.
