Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Still Going Strong!
« on: July 25, 2015, 01:56:49 AM »
Anyone else still using theirs on a daily basis?
Still using mine, but had to replace the screen as half of it had gone into "max headroom" mode. Bought the screen from Amazon and watched all the tutorials on YouTube to work out the minimum dismantle method.
Lollypop sucks on it, so I'm looking into "optipop".

The bottom line is, Lollypop SUCKS!.
Roll on M&M, or will that leave us all scratching our heads going "Hmm"?

So this is Google's cunning plan. Roll out Lollypop to 1st gen Nexus 7 and 1/2 brick them, so you are encouraged to buy a 2nd gen!
Boot up time is painfully slow, WIFI is too keen to drop out and tap the screen anywhere at any time it'll freeze, blank the screen for a couple of seconds then put you back where you came from and it has a think as to what it is suppose to do next!
When I (sorry when it chose to) update from jelly bean to kitkat it took a while for the performance to get back up to speed, but I am fast loosing patience with Lollypop.

There is also a similar problem with a Virgin media account. :-X The "yellow folder icon" Email app no longer works. Gmail is the only 'working' mail app yet it failed to load the existing mail I had on my tablet, and fails to collect it. :-[ Android Chrome stopped working with Virgin media's web mail some time ago, which is ironic as Windows Chrome does work and shows a redirect to Google who manage the Email side of Virgins accounts.  >:(

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Screen streaks. Anyone recognize it?
« on: August 10, 2014, 02:59:17 AM »
Well the screen problem just keeps getting worse. If I use the tablet in landscape format for a while, when I turn it back to portrait I can see a screen burn image in the streak area. So I have bitten the bullet and ordered a replacement screen. Good job their are teardown videos to hold my hand.

Well I am getting a bit closer. I have discovered that there is a way to do a screen grab and the resulting picture is error free which suggests that the screen memory is intact, so the streaking is purely in the glass. Looks like it might be a hardware failure/issue after all.

Well I found someone with a similar problem here :-

but I am still no nearer knowing whether to replace the screen.
Any suggestions?

Nexus 7 Help / Screen streaks. Anyone recognize it?
« on: July 23, 2014, 02:00:44 PM »
The left hand half of my Nexus 7 held vertically has white streaks horizontal to lighter (especially text) areas.
The weather here has been exceptional for our area with temperatures in the high 20's. Don't laugh this is the north of England.
I could have sworn that it had 2 years warranty bought from Google Play, but they claim it has expired.
Can anyone pin down the problem hardware-wise so I can replace the right part.

Thanks in anticipation.

P.S. Photo won't upload. It is small enough but I get a server full error. I'll try again later.

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Chrome browsing history?

OK, when did they sneak it in?
Just discovered it in the drop down (3 squares) menu.

Happy days!

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Browser Hijack
« on: September 21, 2013, 02:07:20 AM »
Sorted. The trick is to get into the settings of the StumbleUpon app and reset its "Launch by default".
So the next time you click on a link in an e-mail, you get a choice of browser and which one to make the default.

Nexus 7 Help / Browser Hijack
« on: September 21, 2013, 01:41:11 AM »
StubleUpon has stolen the browser for loading webpages when I click on links in e-mails.
Does anyone know where the settings are for restoring Chrome back to being my default browser?

Nexus 7 Help / Built in email app (v4.1) problems
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:37:57 PM »
1st problem, while downloading emails it will show emails arriving in the list which then fail to appear in the final list.
2nd problem forms in emails when filled in, and then I click on the submit button, will clear and not be sent. In particular emails from kickstarter, may be unique to kickstarter, I have informed them.
If I try to "Disable" or "Force stop" I get dire warnings, so it looks like I can't use an alternative.

On a similar vein, Android Chrome fails to log in to my virgin/ntlworld account.
Odd, considering that Google manage their mail and Chrome PC works just fine.
-------------
Well nearly a month on and Chrome and virgin are just not talking here at home.
I have no problem with other wifi connections at work or out and about, just the proxy server error on my home broadband connection.

Any suggestions as to who I can talk to?
Google and Virgin are pretty much faceless corporations, and the Indian call centre is little help.

It begs the question, how do you get your stuff off the old onto the new?
Is it possible to network a Nexus 7 and transfer across?
Reinstalling the free stuff should be straight forward, but getting the paid for apps etc?
