New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Brick

Lol, mine rebooted to google logo, cache mounting errors in recovery. Fastboot write failures with multiple cords, ports, and drivers.
Looks like the nand chips failed. Managed to lock and RMA on extended warranty.

I bought an Asus rt-ac56u router with USB ports for ext. drives. On the 5 GHz channel I get around 100-130mbps to an HD as ftp server. The same HD as smb server gets around 15mbps. Any tips to improve speed or is this about the max?

New Nexus 7 Android OS (2nd Gen) / Towelroot
« on: June 20, 2014, 04:49:28 PM »
Proceed at your own risk

A new exploit by the hacker Geohot can root this device without first unlocking the boot loader.
http://towelroot.com/
Download the zip, extract and run. Install supersu or superuser from Google play. Open and update binaries.

To unlock boot without wiping data: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker

This method does not require adb, fastboot, or a computer.

Nexus 7 Android OS (Jelly Bean) / Towelroot

Any crash test dummies? Supposedly will root without first unlocking, preserving data. Then a root app can be used to unlock, preserving data. I'm waiting to see if anyone has success with these tablets. It has been used on nexus phones.

New Nexus 7 Cameras (2nd Gen) / Camera apps
« on: December 23, 2013, 09:14:45 PM »
I know some people think using a tablet for a camera looks as silly as me lugging around my grandpa's large format Rolleiflex. But with the ability to edit, annotate, and email pics it seems useful to me.

Any favorite apps?

In my work, taking a shot of a store frontage, adding notes and measurements for a sign estimate would be useful. A raster/vector conversion to generate a line drawing would be cool.

A surveyor might photograph plats to add their own measurements, adding trig programs to calculate closure of a traverse to catch busted angle and distance measurements before leaving the job site might be another app idea.

OCR, optical character recognition, could be useful in generating PDF files from documents.

Any other ideas?

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Update issues
« on: November 30, 2013, 12:19:17 PM »
Unified thread?

The developers of root enabled apps always play catch up when there's an update. I'll try to categorize the issues and hopefully someone will post their solutions. Waiting to update all root apps and recoveries with bug fixes before the os update might be prudent.

1. Update not installing due to altered system files. (\cache file to find system file check errors?)
2. Hanging in recovery. No command. (Twrp?)
3. Hanging at boot animation. (Non stock launcher?)

Did I miss anything?

Member Reported News / Android device manager disabled
« on: November 09, 2013, 12:23:45 AM »
A silent update to Google play services has disabled this feature. To enable, go to settings, security, device administrators and reactivate.

If your device is lost or stolen you can locate, ring, or wipe it from the web site.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / google chrome pop ups
« on: August 27, 2013, 08:36:46 PM »
On this site I get a pop up for ad choices. Other sites have pop ups as well. In settings, I have them blocked. Have seen redirects too. Does chrome beta work any better?
