So Best Buy will give you a $50 gift card if you trade in a working Nexus 7 2012 on a Nexus 7 2013. Personally, I would give it to a family member or any deserving individual, before I took that deal. Fortunately, I have a family member who can receive my 2012, which retains plenty of usability. It has been mentioned that Radio Shack will give you $28, so perhaps  Best Buy, is a better deal. If you upgraded to the 2013, what did you do with your old tablet?

Chromecast And The Nexus 7 / Chromecast Has Potential
« on: August 06, 2013, 04:46:25 PM »
Chromecast definitely has potential for developers.

Koush, a well know developer, revealed that he is working on a new app that will stream content from DropBox to your Chromecast for display on your HDTV. So imagine arriving at a family function or a hot party, plugging your Chromecast into an HDMI port on an HDTV and whipping out your phone or Nexus 7 and showing off your latest videos, pictures, or music that is stored in your DropBox.

See the full story: Here

The potential is awesome and my Chromecast arrives tomorrow, but the biggest benefits will come from developers.

Look for the Rooting Guide for the Nexus 7 2013, here, in the next few days.

If you don't want to wait for the guide, Wugfresh posted v 1.6.6 of his Nexus Root Toolkit on 02Aug2013 on xda at the following location. It states full support for the Nexus 7 2013 and Android 4.3. I have not tried it, but I will later today and post my results.

Sales are off to a brisk pace for the new Nexus 2013

Quote
The new Nexux 7 already appears to be out of stock with Staples (both versions) and Amazon (32GB model), after having started sales only a few days ago. Both retailers launched the Nexus 7 (2013) ahead of the July 30 release date announced by Google during the new Nexus 7 event, and it looks like they’re already running out of stock. Staples has already sold out both the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models, but we’ll point out that a $30 off tablets coupon may have helped with sales, as many users were able to buy one of the two versions for $30 less than the original price. We will also note that the Nexus 7 seems to be out-of-stock for online sales, and you may find it available for in-store sales (just click on the “Reserve and Pickup” button if it shows up online, and you’ll get more information on stock availability for your region). Amazon still has the 16GB version in stock ready to ship immediately, while the 32GB model will only ship in 3-4 weeks if ordered now.

Check for in store availability at local retailers, there were 4 in the display case at a local retailer in my South GA small town this morning.

Launched earlier than expected, the new Nexus 7 already has two firmware updates in waiting according to a report while an other reveals that the tablet isn’t compatible with Google Wallet. The two updates will upgrade the software to version JWR66N and then JSS15J, according to Android Central. The first one will apparently install itself automatically once the tablet connects to a wireless network for the first time, while the second one will pop up as a regular update notification, letting you update the software at your convenience.

The Nexus 7.2 has been reported as having the SlimPort Technology integrated into it's microUSB port continue reading to learn more about the technology.

Analogix Slim Port technology is a cabling solution that allows you to display what's on your phone or tablet on an external monitor or TV and charge or power your device, at the same time, depending on the SlimPort cable's features. A tablet or phone, with a SlimPort microUSB, connects by a cable that supports Analogix's SlimPort technology utilizing a chip embedded in the jack portion of the cable, which is based on DisplayPort technology, allowing connections using HDMI, VGA, or DVI. Since Analogix is an OEM, you won't be buying the cables direct, rather through the Google Store or other vendors.

Note that we will not know the full list of features supported by the Nexus 7.2, through microUSB, until the official release, but if it does include SlimPort technology, we will certainly have expanded display possibilities.

Follow this link to read the entire White Paper on Analogix's SlimPort technology. Here

Flashify free from the Google Play Store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify allows rooted users to create a kernel or a recovery backup or flash a boot or recovery image and zip files without having to exit to recovery. The app developed by Christian Gollner, allows 3 uses per day with the free version or unlimited usage with the full version for $1.99 US, and works with all of your Nexus devices. Flashify is definitely worth a look if you like experimenting with different kernels and ROMS.

Nexus 7 User Tips / Tapatalk 2 Community Reader For Free

The Nexus 7 does not come with a HDMI port and the Google Dock does not have HDMI out either. MHL adapters are another option, but the USB port on our Nexus 7 does not support MHL. There is rumored HDMI capability with the pogo pins on our Nexus 7, but I have yet to see a working adapter. Although there are many devices sold on the internet claiming to be MHL adapters for the Nexus 7, I have yet to hear of one that actually works. If your HDTV is an internet TV you can use the App, iMediaShare from the Google Play Store, that I have heard works well, but I have not actually used. Your other option is the Nexus 10, which does have a HDMI out port, which I can verify, works quite well. If anyone finds a workable solution for connecting your Nexus 7 to an external monitor or HDTV, please post your experience.

Guys, I am close this thread now as we are rolling out the Public Beta in next few days. We will create a new thread by then. Many of the feedback you provided here have fixed / added in the upcoming Public Beta. Thanks!!

If you have VIP status at the TapaTalk Forum, you have been able to test the "Private Beta" over the past few weeks and if not you may have noted many of our Nexus 7 Forum members posting with a signature indicating that they are using "TapaTalk 4 Beta". Personally I have been very impressed with the potential of TapaTalk 4 and look forward to it merging TapaTalk 2 and TapaTalk HD. The public beta mentioned in the quote above, should allow anyone to install the beta and may even entitle you to free or reduced pricing when TapaTalk 4 is released. So I encourage you to at least install and register an account with the public beta. The updates to the private beta have been released on Sunday, so we could see the public beta as early as Sunday, 26Jun2013. I will update this topic when the Public beta is released.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / iPad at Google I/O 2013
« on: May 15, 2013, 04:22:38 PM »
"Woops"

I thought I had seen a new white Nexus tablet at Google I/O 2013, but when the camera panned during the live Keynotes, I had to grin and say, "woops", when saw iPhone and iPad written on the device connector with a sharpie. So I figured out that maybe we won't see a white Nexus tablet. Seriously, I was a bit surprised to see Google using an iPad for presentations at Google I/O 2013 and even more surprised that it made it into view.
