You may feel slighted by Google with your Nexus 7 pre-order, seeing GameStop, Staples, Office Depot, and Sam's Club, with available stock on Friday, 13Jul2012 and no shipping charge, but they are all currently showing "Out of Stock", so they obviously had a limited allotment. Also, at this time the Google Play Store no longer shows that you can pre-order, rather "Available for Order" and "Shipping When Available". Therefore, from my point of view, if Google lives up to the promise of 13Jul2012, that all pre-orders would ship within 3 business days, those of us with pre-orders are in the "Catbird Seat". Google has received so many negative comments to their Google+ announcement about the initiation of pre-order shipping, that they have disabled comments, so I think they will certainly try to avoid a second black eye. Certainly I will have reservations about purchasing devices from Google Play, rather than retail outlets, in the future, but if they fail on meeting the 3 business day shipping announcement it would be a certainty that I would not. I am sure there are many soon to be Nexus 7 owners , like me, that pre-ordered in the first or second week of July and are still waiting on a shipping confirmation, but I for one am betting that Google honors their three day shipping promise.

If you are apprehensive about typing in Fastboot and ADB commands, m.sabra is developing a one click root tool at XDA Developers. The developer already has one click tools for the nexus s and galaxy nexus and bases this tool on the same code used for those. Once the Nexus 7 begins shipping the tool will be finalized and the procedure will be as easy as downloading the tool, installing the drivers, clicking on root.exe, and following the prompts. This is the link to the One Click Toolkit at XDA Developers. Look for a guide here once the tool is finished.

If you are concerned about transfering content to your Nexus 7, you can relax. The Nexus 7 will support MTP, which allows you to connect the tablet to you PC or MAC with a USB cable and have the Nexus 7 show up a drive in your file explorer. Then you can transfer movies, music, books, ect with ease. The following is shown on page 69 of the Nexus 7 Guide.

The Nexus 7 Guide can be seen Here.

Connect to a Windows computer via USB
You can use a USB cable to connect your tablet to a Windows
computer and transfer music, pictures, and other files in both directions.
This connection uses the MTP protocol, which is supported
by most recent versions of Windows.
If you are using USB tethering, you must turn that off before you
can use USB to transfer files between your tablet and computer.
When you connect your tablet to the USB port on your computer,
its USB storage is mounted as a drive and appears on your computer
screen. You can now copy files back and forth as you would
using any other external device.
When you’re finished, simply disconnect the tablet by unplugging
the USB cable.
To turn USB tethering on or off, go to Settings >
Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable
hotspot.
To change your tablet’s USB connection options, go
to Settings > Device > Storage > Menu > USB computer
connection.

New Member Introductions / Can I resist a 3rd tablet?
« on: July 05, 2012, 02:55:40 PM »
As I already own an HTC Flyer and a ThinkPad Tablet, I do not need another tablet, but for the fun and experience of a new device at a $200-$250 buy in point, it may be hard to resist. Both of my tablets are rooted and running ICS, with the Flyer running S Off and a custom ICS ROM from XDA Developers and the TPT running the Lenovo version of ICS. I am expecting the Nexus 7 community to be huge in comparison to my other two tablets, which will certainly spur development. I plan to explore the information available in at www.nexus7forum.com and then make my decision on buying the Nexus 7.
