It could also be a cache file that's become corrupted. Goto settings/ apps/hangouts and clear cache. You can also clear data but you'll lose old messages.
If that doesn't work, from recovery wipe cache partition only. It will rebuild.

Memory leak, reboot. Lp 5.1.1 should hopefully improve memory management so that available ram quits shrinking and stopping background apps.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Not charging when turned off & no sound!!!
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:02:24 AM »
Multiple issues. Charging:

Mine is similar but intermittent. When it only does a maintenance charge and doesn't top up the battery I use an app called battery monitor widget that displays the voltage flow. Then I connect and reconnect the charger until it gets in the green for positive mvs. Cause? Unknown. Speculation: the battery has six wires, two red, two black, two others. Possibly two batteries and a thermistor. If the thermistor is bad the charging circuit may falsely detect an overheated battery. Or reseating the battery and USB ribbon cables may help.I gave up when I broke a WiFi contact and soldered a jumper. Its three years old, bought a new daily driver.

I'd do a reset without backup and restore. Then add programs one at a time to see what is churning up resources. You could try uninstalling Facebook first, it seems a likely culprit. Oh, do you have google play set to auto update? That can tie things up as well.

Could be background processes like updates and email, fb syncs. Try turning off WiFi.

In lollypop, swipe down from the top with two fingers, or twice with one. Tap the gear icon up top. Scroll down to backup and reset.

A WiFi enabled hard drive should work. It'll create a hot spot that a number of devices can access at once. Plus you can plug it into the lview...

Try nexus media importer, or I think es file explorer can mount a USB drive, tap the vid file and choose open with MX player? You need an otg adapter.

Well, I've got the I view, and a thumb drive, and a nexus. I like to let the TV do the videos. The sandisk may be fast enough to capture hidef but a hard drive is less problematic. At 8 gig/hr you might get a couple movies on it but it's wasted on a little screen.

The embedded link doesn't work for me. If this happens only while charging it could be dirty power from the charger or a bad USB cord. Otherwise, return it.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: anyone know if and when we get KitKat 4.4.3?
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:17:34 PM »
The 5.0.2 update is rolling out now. In the meantime, you can try enabling developer options then force GPU in 2d and limit background apps to four.
When you charge at night don't turn it off, just turn off the screen. The operating system does memory cleanup after midnight but only if the charger is connected. This bug is fixed on 5.0.2.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: OS updates apparently failing

Viewing logcat may require that you root the tablet first to use a terminal emulator or Catlog. Adb may work without root. Check out the toolkits that will automate adb and fastboot commands on the PC with batch files. They may include a log reader and you can download factory images to the tablet as well.

I suspect the ota update file is defective. You could also try rebooting to recovery, wiping the cache partition, and waiting for the ota to redownload.
