We're only a couple of days away from all our Nexus 7's being rejuvenated with the pending roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop.  Google has been so kind as to make available the above quick start guide which is available to download for free from the Google Play Store at the link below.  The 62 page book is chock full of details about the coming new version of Android.  Now officially this is really a tutorial for new Android users.  But it's using the Android 5.0 Lollipop version as its base.  So from the the new 'material design' look, new icons,  the bevy of cool animations  to the new quick settings menu and more...everything you ever wanted to know about Android 5.0 Lollipop you can learn right now in preparation for the big day.   In addition to what's mentioned in the book we should also see battery life and performance improvements as well with the new version and the entirely new look of 'material design' will make you feel like you just took your Nexus 7 out of the box for the first time.

We want to wish everyone a very Happy Halloween!  For those who want to try out a cool, spooky screensaver check out Haunted House HD by DualBoot Games which I've linked below.  Happy Haunting!  (evil laugh)

This one is a Halloween fan's delight with an awesome old haunted house, indoor and outdoor scenes and lots of customization options to add the finishing touch.  Here's a video of it in action:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/XFOwax25B48" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/XFOwax25B48</a>

'Haunted House HD' lets you choose whether you're inside or outside this great haunted house.  Outside you'll be greeted by jack-o-lanterns, your choice of quiet moonlit night or a violent rainstorm and fog, all sorts of cool touches like blowing leaves, bats and the ability to customize by adding your name to the mailbox and door.   The indoor scene brings us a ghost, flickering lights and the lightning from outside, an awesome swinging chandelier and the stairway that leads to who knows where...   There's all kinds of customization options.  You can have the scene automatically pan or move with the flick of your finger as you rotate home screens.  You can choose the shape of the pumpkins and also choose to hide or show numerous items. Try out the new 'Cemetery Pack' as well.  Your kids will love it as an early Halloween present to get them in the mood.

Site News / New Embed Plugin Installed
« on: October 22, 2014, 05:32:55 PM »
Good news folks.  I've just installed a new plug-in which makes our videos HTML5 compliant.  You'll now be able to see videos without the use of Flash on mobile devices.  From now on if you ever want to embed a video all you need to do is paste the url of the video right into your posts...no need to use the embed codes.  You can still use the centering bracket code to center the video if you want.  I've gone through the last 2 years of posts and swapped out the old videos for the html5 versions.  (yes, it was a lot of work).  If you've posted a video in the past and find it hasn't been updated to run in html5 (in other words it doesn't show up on your mobile phone or tablet without Flash) feel free to replace it with the url of the video (usually the youtube url in the browser url bar up top).  This new embed tool also recognized dozens of different video sites like Facebook videos and others.

Most importantly if you enjoy browing old posts and articles that had videos you'll now be able to view them on your mobile devices instead of having the dreaded (plug-in needed) message.

Earlier today our friends at AndroidPolice.com reportedly confirmed that the next Nexus phone will in fact be a 'Nexus 6' made by Motorola and be a whopping 5.9 inches with a qhd resolution display (2560 x 1440).   It is modeled after the 2nd generation Moto X and includes a 13mp camera with OIS, front firing stereo speakers and all around top of the line specs.  It looks like a very impressive piece of hardware but again at a whopping 5.9 inches pushes the term 'phone' to its limits.

This seems all but certain and fits in with previous leaks so we'll be setting up a Nexus 6 Forum at http://Nexus6Forums.com over the next few hours (we never sleep).  Feel free to come by to discuss this first Google Nexus 'phablet' with some outstanding specs.

Nexus 7 Polls / Will you buy a Nexus 9?
« on: September 22, 2014, 12:46:36 AM »
A new Nexus tablet...the Nexus 9 is rumored to be close to introduction and it's set to be a powerhouse with an Nvidia K1 processor, full HD display at a minimum and possibly higher and even the possibility of an accessory 'go pro' type camera that could work seamlessly with it.  Would you purchase a Nexus 9 tablet if it's introduced and let us know if you're a current Nexus 7 owner or not and if that influences your decision to buy a slightly larger Nexus 9 tablet.

If you've been in the market for a quality 8 inch+ tablet and want a snappy current generation Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz processor plus Full HD 1920 x 1200 resolution display to boot then this deal might be for you.  The highly rated LG G Pad 8.3 inch tablet is on sale on Ebay in both black and white models.  Now these are manufacturer refurbished models that come with a 90 day LG warranty.   They are Android 4.4 upgradeable, come with a 4600 mAh lithium-polymer battery for all day+ use and come in the original box.  They also have front and rear cameras and all the cool LG software tweaks like multasking with 'Slide Aside'  You can learn more details about the LG G Pad at this link or just hit the link below and pick one up on Ebay.  It's an awesome tablet for those looking for something a bit bigger than the Nexus 7.

Something happened a few days ago that didn't get much coverage in the major tech press.  That something was the inadvertent confirmation of an HTC built Nexus 9 featuring a K1 processor by Nvidia and expected to be launched in 3Q 2014.   This confirmation comes via legal document that was released on the Nvidia website as part of a law suit it is involved in against Qualcomm and Samsung about some infringing patents regarding an Nvidia GPU.  The specific text cited says: “The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1.”  This goes along with the rumors that have been going on for the past couple of months regarding Google's successor to the Nexus 7 and all we are waiting on now are exact specs and pricing as well as a date.  The above pic is another leak that was unconfirmed but seems to feature the specs expected of the upcoming Nexus 9 'Volantis' tablet by HTC and shows specs such as 2048x1440 display, 64bit Logan K1 processor, stereo speakers and super thin design. So what do you think?  Will you be putting the HTC Nexus 9 on your holiday shopping list?  Make sure to check out our new community dedicated to Google and HTC's new tablet at www.Nexus9Forum.com

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Nexus 7,8,9...or 12?
« on: July 25, 2014, 08:15:24 PM »
As some of you may know there's been endless rumors of just what the follow up to the Nexus 7 2nd generation will be.  A 3rd generation Nexus 7?  A Nexus 8?  How about a Nexus 9?!   That's right, one of the more recent reports is that Google might actually have a 9 inch tablet as the replacement but that's not all.  There's also reports that Google might actually come out with a new line of 3 tablets.  That's right...3!   A 7 inch, 9 inch and 12 inch.  Most reports have HTC as the manufacturer and have these featuring state of the art processors and new high resolution screens that exceed 1080p.  So what are your thoughts folks?  Would you buy a 9 inch tablet?  How about a 12?  Or is the 7 inch original the best way to go?

I don't post many non-Nexus 7 deals on the site but this one is good enough to do so.   If you've ever researched or wanted a wireless bluetooth rechargeable speaker with its own amplification and awesome sound then you know the Jawbone Jambox sets the standard.  It usually lists for $150 but you can grab a remanufactured, like new unit in one of any of 10 color choices for $100 off...only $49.99.   That's a ridiculously low price for one of these and I have one myself and can attest that it's awesome.  The sound has great bass and fills the room or the yard enabling you to share any music or streaming content from your tablet with everyone.  It's great for movies too if you don't want to listen to the small tablet speakers or use headphones.  This offer is on Ebay's daily deals right now so grab one before they run out and make sure to pick the color you want before you click the buy button.
