Much has been spoken about how the Nexus 7 was initially designed to be a 'Kindle Fire killer' and one of the secret weapons in Google's Nexus 7 arsenal besides the superior specs, superior OS (Jelly Bean) and at least comparable if not superior ecosystem, is the company's ability to go worldwide (at least to English speaking markets) in launching the tablet in a much faster time frame than Amazon.   Google has been very clear that both the United Kingdom and Australia will join the U.S. and Canada in the initial Nexus 7 launch with tablets shipping in Mid-July.

The Uk edition of the 8GB Nexus 7 will cost only £159, will be sold exclusively through Google Play and is expected to ship on July 20th.    That price basically makes it a screaming deal in a country where tablets are routinely north of £250...for lesser hardware.  The 16GB version will follow a couple of weeks later on July 27th for a price of £199 and will be available through such stores as PC World, Comet, Tesco and eBuyer.   You'll also be able to pick up the 16GB version through Carphone Warehouse for free on a wi-fi hotspot contract if you choose.

Interestingly, our friends down in Australia will also get both models of the new tablet but for a slight bump in price...although not too bad.  The 8GB model of the Nexus 7 will cost $249 and the 16GB version $299.  Both will be shipping come mid-July.

Finally, our Canadian friends here in North America can sleep soundly knowing the Canadian Google Play site is already taking orders for their Nexus 7's.  The 8GB version costing CA$209 and the 16GB for CA$259 as can be seen in the screen grab above.  Both will ship in 2-3 weeks.  We wouldn't be surprised to see Google roll out the Nexus 7 in many more countries in short order as they race to extinguish the 'Fire' and become the world's standard in 7 inch tablets.

A USB to microUSB cable like you just posted should work fine in connecting the Nexus 7 to any kind of external storage.  Thumb drive, hard drive, flash storage...any should work.

Welcome radiocycle!  Glad to have you!

Are you as excited (and overwhelmed) as we are by all the amazing stuff introduced yesterday at Google I/O, especially when it comes to the Nexus 7 tablet and the Jelly Bean Android 4.1 OS that it runs on?  Well if you are (and who isn't, right?) and you're looking for some in-depth info that goes through all the tons of new features that Jelly Bean brings to the device then you'll be happy to know that Google is offering the 'Nexus 7 Guidebook', an 84 page guide to the new tablet and Jelly Bean to download for free!

Yep, that's right, just head on over to Google Play or download directly HERE and you can download it to your Android device or even see the full tome as a 'preview' online.  You actually get three options to view the book...any Android device, on your web browser or even on an iPad or iPhone.  Inside you'll get all the Jelly Bean and Nexus 7 goodness you can throw a tablet at including the inside scoop on the new Jelly Bean features like the new home screen, Google Now, new Favorites Tray, Notifications and more!  If you've already ordered your Nexus 7 you'll want to dive in so you're ready for your new baby when it arrives.   But even for those just interested in what Jelly Bean has to offer it's worth the read.

So just how fast is the $199 Nexus 7, especially when compared against two other recent tablets, one 7 inch, the other 10.1 that both cost twice as much or more?   Well the answer...pretty fast!   Engadget did some preliminary testing that put the Nexus 7 against two rivals that a consumer might consider.  The first, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, is one of the few tablets of similar size to have a 1280 x 800 resolution screen but runs on a 1.4 GHz dual core exynos processor.   The second, the Transformer Pad Infinity has a 1.7 GHzTegra 3 quad core processor but features a higher resolution 1920 x 1200 display

As you can see in the results above the Nexus 7 holds its own, handily drubbing the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in every category. (and this a tablet more than twice its price) while when looking at the Transformer Pad Infinity in performance mode it still manages to top it in three of 4 categories, most likely because while both are running on Tegra 3 chips, the Nexus 7 has a lower pixel count to push.   Now keep in mind the Galaxy Tab 7.7 typically costs over $500...and the Transformer Pad Infinity is an equally hefty $600 (although it does boast more memory).   So at first blush it really does seem that for $199 you're getting quite a piece of hardware with the Nexus 7.  What are your thoughts?   What do you think of the 'bang for the buck' aspect of the Nexus 7?

Nexus 7 Vs. The Competition / Re: Nexus 7 vs. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
« on: June 28, 2012, 08:16:35 AM »
The screen on the Galaxy Tab 2 isn't as good.  It's 1024 x 600 resolution vs. the 1280 x 800 of the Nexus 7.   Also it's a dual core processor vs. quad core.  For the price I'd go with the Nexus 7 myself.  The only thing the Tab has over the Nexus 7 is the microSD card slot, which while certainly is convenient to expand memory...it's really not a deal breaker to me because I can just carry a microUSB stick with any extra media or files if I can't fit it all onto the 16GB of the Nexus 7 since it does have microUSB.  Maybe not quite as convenient as having sd build in but not a deal breaker to me.  Rear camera to me is useless.  I would never be using it personally and would much rather have the superior screen and processor/GPU.

Welcome Paul!  Glad to have you here in the forum.  Looking forward to you being an active member of the community.

It's an attempt to encourage people to use/buy their Google Play content through the cloud.  That's where they make their money.  Similar to what Amazon's model is with the Kindle Fire.  But at least with the Nexus 7 it's not locked down.

Today in San Francisco's Moscone Center Google introduced their new Nexus 7 tablet to a cheering throng of developers  (but of course you know that already!).   Above you'll find the video of the Nexus 7 part of the company's presentation which shows the tablet being put through its paces with the new Android 4.1 Jellybean OS, as well as shows some of the Google media, content and services that are part of the tablet's ecosystem.  Enjoy!

Are you a (or soon to be) passionate Nexus 7 user that wants to help build the Nexus 7 community?  Passionate about Android and would have fun shaping the direction of the forum, answering the occasional tech question and just are an all around good guy?  Then we want to hear from you!  We're looking for several 'Global Moderators' for Nexus7Forum.com.  Send me (Babyfacemagee) a private message if you're interested!

It should be as easy as loading anything you have onto the Nexus 7's memory via either the microUSB connection or wi-fi.   There's a ton of different video, audio and text readers that are all compatible with Android so this shouldn't be an issue.  It's not a 'locked down' device like the Kindle Fire.
