We want to wish everyone a very Happy Halloween!  For those who want to try out a cool, spooky screensaver check out Haunted House HD by DualBoot Games which I've linked below.  Happy Haunting!  (evil laugh)

This one is a Halloween fan's delight with an awesome old haunted house, indoor and outdoor scenes and lots of customization options to add the finishing touch.  Here's a video of it in action:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/XFOwax25B48" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/XFOwax25B48</a>

'Haunted House HD' lets you choose whether you're inside or outside this great haunted house.  Outside you'll be greeted by jack-o-lanterns, your choice of quiet moonlit night or a violent rainstorm and fog, all sorts of cool touches like blowing leaves, bats and the ability to customize by adding your name to the mailbox and door.   The indoor scene brings us a ghost, flickering lights and the lightning from outside, an awesome swinging chandelier and the stairway that leads to who knows where...   There's all kinds of customization options.  You can have the scene automatically pan or move with the flick of your finger as you rotate home screens.  You can choose the shape of the pumpkins and also choose to hide or show numerous items. Try out the new 'Cemetery Pack' as well.  Your kids will love it as an early Halloween present to get them in the mood.

Site News / New Embed Plugin Installed
« on: October 22, 2014, 05:32:55 PM »
Good news folks.  I've just installed a new plug-in which makes our videos HTML5 compliant.  You'll now be able to see videos without the use of Flash on mobile devices.  From now on if you ever want to embed a video all you need to do is paste the url of the video right into your posts...no need to use the embed codes.  You can still use the centering bracket code to center the video if you want.  I've gone through the last 2 years of posts and swapped out the old videos for the html5 versions.  (yes, it was a lot of work).  If you've posted a video in the past and find it hasn't been updated to run in html5 (in other words it doesn't show up on your mobile phone or tablet without Flash) feel free to replace it with the url of the video (usually the youtube url in the browser url bar up top).  This new embed tool also recognized dozens of different video sites like Facebook videos and others.

Most importantly if you enjoy browing old posts and articles that had videos you'll now be able to view them on your mobile devices instead of having the dreaded (plug-in needed) message.

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: The Nexus 9 Will You Make the Switch?
« on: October 15, 2014, 07:47:11 PM »
I'm in the market for a new phone and will be deciding between the Nexus 6, Note 4 and LG G3.  As for the Nexus 9, I want to wait to see it in person.  I do like the keyboard case accessory and am interested to see how Android Lollipop handles multitasking and the 4:3 screen ratio of the Nexus 9.  I've found myself doing more and more work on my Nexus 7 and a Nexus 9 with bigger screen and good keyboard could persuade me to pick one up.  Let's see some of the reviews first.  I'm also curious as to if/how many app developers tweak their software for the 4:3 resolution display to take full advantage of it.

The Nexus 9 was just officially introduced folks and for the most part it lives up to the specs we've had rumors about for several months now.  Made by HTC and available in 3 colors the Nexus 9 starts off at $399 for the 16GB model we're looking at a 64 bit K1 processor in a 4:3 ratio 8.9 inch IPS display form factor with stereo BoomSound speakers, 8mp rear/1.6mp front cameras, Turbo Charge (15 minutes gets you 6 hours of use) and a nice soft touch back with brushed metal sides.

Pre-orders will start on October 17th and pricing is as follows:  $399 for 16GB, $479 for 32GB and $599 for a 32GB w/LTE version.  It's also available in three colors:  Black, White and Beige.  Of course all this runs on the newest version of Android - L for Lollipop.  Separately, Google will also sell a keyboard case that let's you position the Nexus 9 at multiple angles for easy typing. The official page is at the link below.  We've got a dedicated forum setup at www.Nexus9Forum.com so please join us if you're interested in the Nexus 9.  Google also introduced the Nexus 6 phone today so if you're interested in their new large 6 inch screen Nexus phone you can join us at www.Nexus6Forums.com.  Of course we'll continue to have Nexus7Forum.com for all our Nexus 7 owners.

Have you dreamed of having a LTE version of the Nexus 7 (works with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile) so you could use that 'always on' connectivity and access the internet anytime you wanted without being connected to Wifi?  Well now's your chance to get one on the cheap if you don't mind buying a refurbished unit on Groupon right now for only $199.  Now these LTE Nexus 7s usually go for $400 on Amazon or $350 at BestBuy or the Google Play Store.  So you're saving at least $150 and as much as $200 on this baby.  All you need to do to get one is hit the link below and use the Groupon link below and you'll be swimming in as much all you can want LTE internet wherever you are.

Earlier today our friends at AndroidPolice.com reportedly confirmed that the next Nexus phone will in fact be a 'Nexus 6' made by Motorola and be a whopping 5.9 inches with a qhd resolution display (2560 x 1440).   It is modeled after the 2nd generation Moto X and includes a 13mp camera with OIS, front firing stereo speakers and all around top of the line specs.  It looks like a very impressive piece of hardware but again at a whopping 5.9 inches pushes the term 'phone' to its limits.

This seems all but certain and fits in with previous leaks so we'll be setting up a Nexus 6 Forum at http://Nexus6Forums.com over the next few hours (we never sleep).  Feel free to come by to discuss this first Google Nexus 'phablet' with some outstanding specs.

Personally, I wouldn't understand pricing in that $399 or $499 range.  I would expect $299/$349 for the 16GB/32GB.  There are so many decent Android tablets at this point from a range of manufacturers in the sub-$400 price range that it would only make sense for a Nexus device to be below that point imo.  But I guess we'll see.  Also, with the rather large bezels on the Nexus 7, I could see HTC making a Nexus 9 that came in at not that much bigger than the Nexus 7 but with a near bezel-less design.  I guess time will tell.  I'm about due for an upgrade though so as long as it's not overpriced I'll probably pick one up.

The leaks have been coming fast and furious about the Google HTC Nexus 9 folks.  Today, the Wall Street Journal reports we can expect this 64 bit Nvidia Tegra K1, 8.9 inch 2560 x 1440 resolution, Android 5.0 (Android L) monster of a tablet in under a month's time.  If you're a 1st or 2nd generation Nexus 7 owner and been wanting a slightly larger format tablet with killer specs, this looks like it's what you've been waiting for.  Please stop by Nexus9Forum.com and be a part of what is sure to be the #1 Nexus 9 community on the web.  Of course Nexus7Forum.com will continue to be THE place to be for Nexus 7 aficionados but hey, if you can swing it, why not have both!

Nexus 7 Polls / Will you buy a Nexus 9?

A new Nexus tablet...the Nexus 9 is rumored to be close to introduction and it's set to be a powerhouse with an Nvidia K1 processor, full HD display at a minimum and possibly higher and even the possibility of an accessory 'go pro' type camera that could work seamlessly with it.  Would you purchase a Nexus 9 tablet if it's introduced and let us know if you're a current Nexus 7 owner or not and if that influences your decision to buy a slightly larger Nexus 9 tablet.

If you've been in the market for a quality 8 inch+ tablet and want a snappy current generation Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz processor plus Full HD 1920 x 1200 resolution display to boot then this deal might be for you.  The highly rated LG G Pad 8.3 inch tablet is on sale on Ebay in both black and white models.  Now these are manufacturer refurbished models that come with a 90 day LG warranty.   They are Android 4.4 upgradeable, come with a 4600 mAh lithium-polymer battery for all day+ use and come in the original box.  They also have front and rear cameras and all the cool LG software tweaks like multasking with 'Slide Aside'  You can learn more details about the LG G Pad at this link or just hit the link below and pick one up on Ebay.  It's an awesome tablet for those looking for something a bit bigger than the Nexus 7.

I pretty much agree with S. Prime on this.  I think that as long as you need a phone or tablet to tether to for the best functions then smart watches will be relegated to geek or niche devices.   Only when they are stand alone devices that can make calls and access the net will they have a shot in getting to the mainstream.  The problem is that even if they are standalone for phone calls, the screens will never be big enough to web browse comfortably.  I think 10 years from now we'll each have a large screen phone/phablet on us but a smart watch?  I'm not so sure.  Regardless, it's still interesting to follow how the technology develops.

I know, I know...this is an Android forum.  However a sizable minority also use Apple products so we try and cover both OS's in our network of communities.  Be nice!
