The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / The Forum is Growing
« on: November 02, 2012, 12:56:10 PM »
Browsing through the New Members section, it's great to see Nexus 7 users from all of the different states and so many countries.  I'm really looking forward to getting some great advice of things to see when I go on vacation (or holiday as some of y'all say).

There are 2155 members as I write this.  We're growing so fast that Babyface might have to change to Toddlerface.

Nexus 7 Help / Why You Shouldn't Use a Task Killer
« on: October 25, 2012, 10:12:41 AM »
This subject has been mentioned in the comments of a few (6) posts on the forums.

The How-To Geek blog has one of the clearest task killer posts I've read.  Why You Shouldn’t Use a Task Killer On Android must be true, because I found it on the internet.

I personally think this is the best quote from the article:  "CyanogenMod, the popular community-developed Android ROM, won’t even accept bug reports from users using task killers, saying that they cause more problems than they solve."

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Playing Games Off A USB Drive

Has anyone tried to run games off a USB drive?  I found this link on droiddog but I won't have time to try it until tomorrow.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Lets Play a Game
« on: September 15, 2012, 04:18:51 PM »
The Alphabet Game is simple and might be a good way to learn something new about our Nexus 7s.  We go through the alphabet, starting with A, then B, C, D, etc.  When we get to Z, we start over with A.  For each letter, name one feature, game, event, application, person, etc.  The word must refer to the Nexus 7 in some way.  You can only post one letter at a time, and you have to wait for someone else to post something for the next letter before you can post again.  I'll get us started.

A is for ASUS, the manufacturer of the Nexus 7.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Best $249 I've Ever Spent
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:06:11 PM »
I've had my N7 for about two months now.  I was surprised when my technology impaired wife started asking me about it.  Turns out my daughter was looking for people to play online games with and she convinced the boss to get a tablet.  Off to the nearest electronics store we went.  The sales clerk showed her an iPad and said it was the best they had.  I gently explained that I don't allow Apple or Sony products in my house.  We finally found her a Nexus 7 at our local Walmart.  Took it home and plugged it in.

About 3 hours later, we started the setup.  First thing was getting her a gmail address.  She was happy to get a new email address so that only her friends would have it and she wouldn't get any more junk mail.  (Note:  about every six months I give her a new address on my domain).  Then we inputted her credit card info and she saw the $25 Play Store credit notice.  She asked why she had to pay another $25.  I explained that it was the other way around.  They were giving her $25 to spend in the Play Store.

I installed some games and the app to download library books.  I taught her how to use the Play Store and how to remove apps she doesn't want.  Of course, everything that wanted an email address got her new one.  So much for the save it for friends idea.

If you've read this far in my lengthy post, you're probably wondering about the title.  Truth is, since she got the N7, she is spending a lot of time plying Angry Birds and several other games.  This means she isn't taking the time to think of things for me to do.  Not only that, but I finally get to watch my TV shows.  It was definitely the best $249 I've ever spent.

The jury found that Samsung phones are the same as Apple phones.  Samsung phones are cheaper than Apple phones.  Does that mean that Apple should refund their phone customers the price difference?

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Don't Make the Same Mistake I Did
« on: August 21, 2012, 10:58:48 AM »
I made a big mistake with my Nexus 7.  I let my grandson (6 years old) use it.  Now I have a hard time using it when he's around.  His Mom and Dad both have tablets and I have my old tablet.  They are all from different manufacturers.  He also has an I-Pod of his own.  Guess which machine he wants to play with.

HE KEEPS STEALING MY NEXUS 7!

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / All About Android
« on: August 08, 2012, 08:44:19 PM »
All About Android is a weekly internet video podcast.  They have had a lot of N7 discussion in the past few shows.

This program is one of many that play on the TWIT network.  I usually don't buy the latest, greatest electronics (let others find the bugs).  Leo Laporte convinced my to preorder the N7.

New Member Introductions / It only took about 15 hours
« on: August 05, 2012, 08:32:18 PM »
but I finally read almost every post so far.  I'm a member in a lot of forums.  It looks like this will become one of my favorites.  My N7 has already become one of my favorite machines.
