Probably not.  I wouldn't let it slide around on a hard surface though.

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: The Nexus 9 Will You Make the Switch?
« on: October 15, 2014, 07:34:38 PM »
I find myself using my tablet(s) less and less.  My main device is now the Samsung Note II.  I'll be taking a close look at the Nexus 6.  If I do get another tablet, I doubt it will be nine inches.  When I carry my tablet, I like to stick it in my cargo pocket.

I'm housebound and so don't have or need a cell phone...but I would like to send and receive texts the way I see friends doing on their cell phones.  I also want to be able to do web browsing for easy info/research without turning on my heavy duty graphics computer.  I have WiFi and am hoping the Nexus 7 can use it to do both texting and browsing without a cell account.

If I need extra software to do texting, what is best?

Also, I notice there seems to be more than one version of Nexus 7 (Google and ASUS???).  If so, which one?  I have a Gmail acct if that matters.

Someone who knows nuttin about Android or tablets.

Although I don't text from my tablet(s), it can be done.  There are several texting apps you can download from the Play Store.  I've heard good things about Mighty Text.

The only problem I've had with doing research on a tablet is I'll often have several tabs active at the same time.  They are a lot easier to manipulate on a desktop.

ASUS is the Nexus 7 manufacturer under the Google brand.  There are two versions: 2012 and 2013.  There will probably be a Nexus 8 on the market in the next month or so.

New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Re: Disappearing books and downloading videos
« on: September 30, 2014, 08:01:48 PM »
Have you asked Google support about your books?

Contrary to popular belief digital books, music, movies, etc. are different than physical books, CDs, DVDs, etc.  You do not own them, but have purchased the right to play them.  If you had a hard copy book, you could sell it or leave it to an heir.  You cannot do the same with a digital book.

Based on the information in your question, it is hard to guess about your video download problem.  I would guess that you probably to not have a compatible video player installed.

Will the Nexus 7 2012 get the Android l update?

I don't know and don't really care.  My 7 is working just fine the way it is.  It does everything I want it to.

Probably not.  I like the fact that a seven inch tablet fits almost perfectly in a cargo pocket.

I would do another factory reset, but not install Google backups.  Instead, I would reinstall apps one at a time and see if any of them are causing your problems.  Have you installed any apps that weren't from the Google Play Store?

I think S. Prime is correct.  The apple watch is just going to be another toy like so many others.  When Google glass debuted, it was going to change the world.  Now a little over a year later hardly any tech sites mention it.

When I retired from the Navy in 1989, one of the first things I did was take off my watch.  I have worn one since.  The tech companies will have to create one heck of a product to get me to go back.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: where are my email addresses stored
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:17:31 PM »
I haven't had this problem because I don't use gmail for my primary.  I think it might be some kind of sync problem.  A Google search shows that you are not alone.  I haven't been able to find a solution.

Help- where is the address book/list of contacts on GMail, etc.?

how do you access gmail contacts using the Nexus 7

You might try some of the many contacts list organizers in the Google Play Store.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Which keyboard are you using?  I haven't noticed this problem.  I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think Google Voice just provides the input and the keyboard app supplies the capitalization, punctuation, etc.

Sorry.  I misread the original question.  Looks like the answer is no.
