Cannot get Equalizer to work

Have tried several music equalizers.  All load OK on N7, interface seens fine, but cannot get any to affect music in earphones.  Tried this with several program sources - WinAmp-Free, Netflix, Youtube, ever a sample song that came packaged with Equalizer.  Must be an N7 setting problem, or an Android 4.1 problem. 

Yes, I've set N7 to the equalizer I'm using, under Settings> Sounds> Music Effects> my equalizer.

Any advice on this?

If you are using an equalizer that is working correctly, tell me which one and I'll give it a try.
