For the longest time it seemed you couldn't listen to an Apple press conference without them emphasizing the iOS ecosystem's advantage in sheer numbers of apps available in order to justify purchasing an Apple device rather than a range of others. Well we're happy to say that as of today that advantage is over. Bloomberg just announced that according to their research the Android 'Google Play Store' now boasts 700k apps of its own and in fact is nipping at Apple's heels with only a matter of time before it surpasses its arch rival.
Now there still does exist the issue of how many of these apps have been optimized for tablets rather than phones. Google has been putting pressure on developers to make sure their apps are optimized for the larger screen size of tablets and even issued a tablet app bible of sorts a few weeks ago outlining how to optimize for the Nexus 7 and other Android apps. With the successful sales of the Nexus 7 and now the Nexus 10 on the scene as well as the company's push in the tablet sector, we're pretty sure we'll be seeing a rush of tablet optimized apps from here on out.
