Airplane mode has flown
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:02:10 PM »
This is exciting - something new everytime I go to the tablet!

This time Google anounce they have removed airplane mode from 4.2 and replaced it with something called night mode.

Never a dull moment........

Here is the text of the notification which arrived here on my Nexus 7 tonight:

Flight Mode Support removed By Google

Your device is running Android 4.2 or later.  Please note that Google removed API for turning device into airplane mode in Android 4.2.

There is NO WAY how to programatically turn airplane mode on on (sic) unrooted devices.

For this reason we replaced Airplane Mode with Night Mode that is similar and more configurable.  Visit settings section to configure your night mode.

We are really sorry for inconvenience.

/End of text

I am wondering if this message was generated by Battery Widget Reborn Pro because Airplane Mode has disappeared from that widget but still remains in the pull-down from top-right settings menu panel.

I am on 4.2.1

Google is always changing APIs with each revision of Android this just means at the moment a third parties app will not work .Google did not remove Airplane Mode they just changed or removed the API that third party developers used .
