virtual keyboard issues.
« on: February 20, 2013, 04:10:19 PM »
Hi all, im new here.

I am also new to the nexus7. I have the latest 4.2.2 update.. I have no way of knowing if my issues are related to the latest update? or nexus7 in general. i have tried several searches.. but it may just be the way im wording the search?

issue

when i hold the n7 in the none landscape direction or vertical and try to type everything seems to go well untill I try typing the letter o. when i do this 95% of the time I get the letter o and the letter i. in landscape view i dont get this. the oi issue happends with the android keyboard and swiftkey keyboard.

this cold be my thumbs... i kind of doubt it as I dont have this problem on any of my android phones. and it doesnt on the left hand side when I use my thumb to type the letter w or e..

anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance

Have yuppy tried using gesture typing? This contains a fair amount of error tolerance sand may help you resolve your issue, regardless of the origin.

I think I got it. Settings --> language & input --->pointer speed

I set it all the way to the left. Seems to help

Welcome. try precise strikes on the letter that is giving you problems. Maybe you would be comfortable with another keyboard. There are herds of them out there. I use SwiftKey a lot. They just added a swype type feature today..

welp I thought is was better.. but its not really

I have try both the stock android keyboard and and swiftkey. each has the same result. I am starting to think that that portion of the screen is just not working properly. is that even possible?

It's possible that calibration is off. Again, are you striking the key precisely or off a little? It should be pretty easy to figure out if you take your time and troubleshoot.

SwiftKey actually gives you a heat map showing you how accurately you strike the keys.

actually there is an easier way to tell if there is some kind of hardware (screen issue) . I just turn the thing upside down and see if i have the same issues.. and i don't. so if the front facing camera is at the top, the very left of the keyboard doesn't work well at all.. actually the upper left. if i turn the tablet over, so that the camera is at the bottom, I can type away with no issues.. other than my spelling:)

so now the question is more what do i do about it? do i call goggle and explain? what has every ones experiences with defective units?

If your device is defective, Google has been very good about issuing replacements. If you are within a warranty period, there shouldn't be an issue, assuming that you made your purchase through Google play.

As a last ditch effort I would try a hard reset. Can't hurt.
