Yikes! Facebook won't open and now Youtube!

Hi there

LOVE my Nexus 7 and I use it a lot! It is such a useful and incredible tool (and toy too  ). But today it has started acting very strange and I'm worried something horrible has happened. I hope it can be set right... 

Facebook started loading very slow and then eventually just stopped working at all. I signed out and tried to sign in again, but it just hangs for about a minute or so and finally gives me an error message. I uninstalled and reinstalled but still nothing. I kept trying, but nothing all day. I also tried going in through the browser but still nothing. I can't access Facebook help pages or anything.

Then this afternoon, YouTube stopped playing videos. I can access the site both thru the app and browser, but no video will play. How these are related, I can't imagine...but I have had virtually no probs with my "Tabby" the tablet until now (apart a small goof with my gmail, which caused me to -fortunately- stumble across this forum and find a fix  ).

And just to make a strange case even stranger, I finally set down my Nexus and went to my PC, and the same thing is happening there. No access to FB and no video play on YouTube. However, on my phone, no probs with either one, and I was able to sign in and use FB and YouTube on my husband's PC. 

I'm at a loss...and yearning for my Nexus to be well again. Any ideas?

Hmmm...just tried Words with Friends and it's not working either. Error message says "no server connection detected." Does that help in our quest?

Yes. Several times.

Oh jeez! And now my husband's computer is doing the same thing! He just ran the latest windows update and BLAMMO, no FB and vids won't play on YT. So...OK, I understand why that would affect my computer...but my tablet?

So now, just the phone works. Common element on problem devices =router? Reboot router, change wifi channel, run throughput tests before and after with speedtest.

Thank you for mentioning the router. Today, my husband's computer stopped playing YT videos and we could no longer access FB there either, though it worked just fine yesterday. We were scratching our head's and rocking back in forth as part of our Facebook withdrawal, when I checked back here and read your post to my beloved better half. His eyes softened and said..."Hmm..router, huh? Um...ya know, I was messing with the settings yesterday...maybe that has something to do with it?"

  Um, yep.

So he put the settings back, and all works just fine.

We were wondering though, why everything didn't stop working right away? He changed the settings at 6:30 in the morning, and I didn't start having problems until around noon. First my tablet, then an hour or so later my computer, and then his computer didn't have probs until this morning. Any idea why it was such a slow progression of failure?

Without knowing the router and changed settings, l would just be making up answers again. So here goes: if the security encryption type is changed, you need to forget and reinstall the wifi ssid on each device. There are some settings for Quality of Service that may adversely affect the connection. And changing to a congested wifi channel will give you problems. But I really don't have a clue...
