Google Introduces 'Keep' Note taking App
« on: March 21, 2013, 11:24:15 AM »

It's amazing to think that with all the built in features of the Android operating system, one area that has been lacking for some time now has been notetaking.  Well Google plans to change that and has just introduced 'Google Keep', a new app that is widely being described as the company's own competitor to such apps as 'Evernote'.    With 'Google Keep' you can take notes on any of your Android devices and then access that information from any device, anywhere as your notes are all saved in the cloud.  There's more to it than that of course and here's a short video to show you the basics...

Quote
With Google Keep you can:
• Keep track of your thoughts via notes, lists and photos
• Have voice notes transcribed automatically
• Use homescreen widgets to capture thoughts quickly
• Color-code your notes to help find them later
• Swipe to archive things you no longer need
• Turn a note into a checklist by adding checkboxes
• Use your notes from anywhere - they are safely stored in the cloud and available on the web at http://drive.google.com/keep

'Google Keep' is integrated with your Google Drive account so every note you take is saved there.  There's a host of 'added value' features as well that let note-taking become easy.  You can color code your notes, attach photos and lists, you can have voice notes transcribed automatically and more.  There's even a feature to turn a note into a checklist by adding checkboxes.   New notes are also instantly accessible via home screen widgets and you can save and archive old notes you no longer need with a simple swipe on the screen.   Each note is dated so you can see notes by date and we can see this being expanded in the future to offer lots of 'Evernote'-like capability...but with the added bonus of being integrated with all your Google services.   'Google Keep' is free...just download it at the link below and let us know what you think.  We have a hunch this will become a new staple of Android devices and one of its most often used apps.

Says "use your notes from anywhere".  Does that include iOS?

Google Keep is only for Android as far as I know right now.  Don't think an ios app has been released.

I checked it out as well. It is starting to grow on me. Good to jot down a quick note or list.

I'm also really starting to like Google Keep.  I have the Keep widget on my home screen where I can just with one tap transcribe a voice note with no added steps necessary.  Pretty nifty.

The best feature for me is that you can create a voice memo and share it to your calendar and create an event with your memo attached and then delete your Keep memo. I can see lots of benefits to this Google App.

I will be using it a lot for school and work. I already use a basic notes app and this is a big step up from what I was using. I also love that it syncs with drive.
