where do you put your files

I have a simple question and I apologize if its been asked. Where do you put audio video files on the Nexus 7 to have them show up in the Play apps. Meaning what folder. I use android file transfer on my mac and when I place a file in the movies folder it doesnt show up in the videos explorer. Also same question for books and movies.

Shut down and restart your Nexus 7. Your Android version will read the new file structure on start up and should show your files.
