A report earlier this week by BCN Ranking of 2400 retail businesses surveyed during the holiday season had Google's Nexus 7 outselling all other tablets, the iPad included in the nation of Japan. According to the survey, the Nexus 7 captured 44.4% of tablet sales compared to 40.1% for Apple's tablet. Now as part of the survey consumers were asked as to their reasons for choosing one tablet over another and the top response for choosing the Nexus 7 was the much lower price point of Google's tab.
Now this is interesting news as far as we're concerned because it is the first time we've heard of any tablet outselling the iPad. Apple's 9.7 inch behemoth has pretty much gone uncontested as sales champ in the tablet space every since it was introduced in 2010. The recent surge in sales of smaller tablets that was largely set off by Amazon's Kindle Fire and then the Nexus 7 seems to be making deep inroads in the market. Even Apple's own 'iPad Mini' apparently wasn't able to sustain the iPad's lead. Is this a sign of things to come? Will we see the Nexus 7 outselling the iPad in other markets? Stay tuned....
