Preparation for 4.2.2 Update
« on: February 05, 2013, 09:37:47 AM »
Guys
I had in the past had to run factory reset which cleared out all my data and applications so I could update to 4.2.1 and earlier versions
This is a painful process to redo Amazon...Playbook..re-registration  .etc....
If I were to backup (nandroid backup) , do the factory reset, update the firmware to 4.2.2 (whenever it comes out). Can i use my nandroid back up to bring back my data and applications
In anticipating the new firmware's arrival, is it possible that we can have a step by step instructions how to update firmware for rooted N7
Many Thanks

If you are rooted I would advise installing OTA Rootkeeper and use it to backup SU. It should make things go smoothly when the update arrives.

Your Nandroid Backup will backup up your current Android state, so a restore with a Nandroid Backup, will return you to your current state. Using Titanium Backup allows you to be selective with your restore. I suggest having both backups, since your Nandroid Backup is your "failsafe" if anything goes wrong.

Or try Koush's new Carbon - App Sync and Backup, worth investing in the premium too...

Also, I'd highly recommend a factory reset if updating from 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 so nothing is going to leak over.

You could flash the 4.2.1 factory image but you would have to reroot, would also do a full wipe at the same time.
