There are new rumors this morning about the new Nexus 7 2nd generation tablet that is expected to be unveiled at Google I/O starting less than a week from now.  This latest, courtesy of 'Techcrunch'  and '9to5Google.com' has Google's new 7 inch tab sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 S4 Pro Processor.  This would make the new tablet a monster performer as previously most pundits figured the company would go with the slightly slower, although still impressive 600 series. (There seems to be some confusion as to if it is the Snapdragon S4 Pro or the 800 processor that will be in the Nexus 7.  Different sites are reporting different processors...we'll have to wait and see...both are substantially more powerful than the current Nexus 7's Tegra 3)

KGI securities analyst Mingchi Kuo told 9t05Google.com that he also expects to see a 5 megapixel rear camera, improved HD front camera and a sleek new design with thinner bezel, smaller size and lighter weight, all while holding the price at the same $199 as the previous model.  Pixel density will come in at 323 dpi and physical dimensions that will come in at or slightly smaller than the iPad Mini.

Another expected addition to this new model is wireless charging, most likely using the Qi-based induction technology, which would make the Nexus 7 compatible with a wide range of chargers that hold to the standard.  Up top is a chart of some of the predicted Nexus 7 MK2 specs as well as their likely manufacturing suppliers.   Google is looking to be very aggressive with the Nexus 7 and despite the high-powered specs will take a $5-$10 loss on each Nexus 7 sold in order to keep the price at $199.   It seems they are determined to gain market share in the 7 inch tablet segment and this is a great strategy to do it.   The iPad Mini is certainly right in its sights.  We'll of course know for sure when Google I/O opens up just 5 days from now.
