An interesting development happened this morning outside Google's headquarters in Mountain View as a gigantic Android shaped 'KitKat' was erected to join the other Android figures of past Android versions.  Android head Sundar Pichai tweeted as well as shared on Google  the above photo and thus informed the world that the next release of the world's #1 OS will in fact be Android 4.4 'KitKat'.  The Android developer site has been updated as well with a history of Android versions and a promotion involving 'KitKat' bars where you can win a Nexus 7 or Google Play credit.   The 4.4 release is being teased with the following blurb:  "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."  Sundar also announced that Android had surpassed 1 billion activations.  Obviously, a pretty amazing milestone for the OS and for Google.

Now this would lead us to believe that in fact 'Key Lime Pie' is no more and apparently, according to this report on Engadget,  Google was able to get the blessing to use the name 'KitKat' without having to worry about getting into a trademark infringement suit because Google and Nestle's 'KitKat' are currently doing a joint promotion.  Heck, they probably welcome them using it as it's free promotion.  Still, we're eager to get some more info on this development.  Does Sundar not like Key Lime Pie?  Is his favorite guilty pleasure those chocolate covered wafers?  And perhaps most importantly...is that giant Android shaped KitKat figurine now stationed in front of Google headquarters edible?

And just like that Nestle's 'KitKat' has come out with a comic video spoofing the Android-KitKat tie-up.

They're just having a little fun.  It's back to school time so they're having a promotion in concert with Nestle' and KitKat to promote the New Nexus 7.   4.4 will probably be another relatively minor update such as 4.3 was.  From the sound of their tagline "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody." it sounds like perhaps more mutli-language support or even that instantaneous multi-language Google translate that we've heard about which is kind of like 'Star Trek's' translator will be part of it.

Frankly, the next major changes in Android will be with 5.0, but we probably won't see that until 2014.

I am surprised to hear that there won't be major changes with KitKat. What are some of these changes for 5.0?
