Preventing apps from updating
« on: January 21, 2014, 10:49:45 AM »
There are some paid apps that were better before the developers "improved" them in later versions. That is the case for at least 3 apps I purchased and have installed on my Nexus 7. I have them backed up on Titanium Backup and set these backups to "protected". So they are available to restore from.

Unfortunately, the play store constantly tries to update them and detaching them from the market using tibu only sticks for 1-2 days.

Is there a way I can permanently stop play store from constantly including them in its "update all" list?

Have you tried turning off the auto update of apps in play store settings?

To add a bit to Matt's excellent suggestion, opening "My Apps" in the Play Store and tapping on a individual app in the list will open the app in the Play Store where the description of the app is shown, then tapping the three dots at the top right side of the screen, will allow you to turn off auto update for that particular app.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

Auto update option is unselected in all my apps. The apps I'm writing about do not update automatically.

What happens is that when I go to the play store and select "my apps" I get a list of apps that have updates available. At the top of that list is a button to "update all". Since I often have more than one installed apps that I want to update, it is very convenient to click on "update all" instead of doing each app individually.

So what I need is to not have these 3 apps appear in the "update all" list. That is what the "detach from market" item is supposed to do and it does it - but only for a day or so. After that, play store refreshes itself and the detached apps reappear in the "update all" list!

In other words I need some way to detach apps from the market - *permanently*.

The only real option is to sideloaded the application you don't want updates for however I would advise against this for a number of reasons.

Firstly, there's the whole safety aspect of sideloading.
Yes sometimes app updates at first can be annoying but I've personally found that perseverance with updates works and I end up liking it.

Another thing about not updating is, app developers include security fixes in many applications (depending on the app) and these are important.

Thanks. Can you explain how to sideload an installed app. I've never done that.

Sideloading is simply obtaining the apps apk file and installing from that which is outside the play store.
If you were to copy an apk (if you have root) of an app you already have from the Play store it is likely that the app will still appear on the Play store.
Alternatively you could try installing the Amazon app store, this is also a type if sideloading. If the apps you don't want to update are on the Amazon app store, uninstall them from your device and then install them through the Amazon app store. You can turn auto update off and they'll on longer be on the Play store. You will however need to keep Amazon app store on your device and you'll need to be signed in to use those applications.
