What is the best video player for the Nexus 7 Tablet?
« on: August 18, 2012, 07:58:14 AM »
The stock video player on the Nexus 7 supports the H.263, H.264 AVC, MPEG-4 and VP8 video codecs.   If you want to play others like the popular AVI, MKV and others you'll need a separate video player app.   With a bunch of available options, what is the best video player everyone has found for the Nexus 7?  MX Player and BS Player seem to have a lot of fans.  Others swear by Dice Player or Mobo Player.   The Tegra 3 supports most video codecs except for the 10 bit which apparently is used in a lot of anime type vids.   Do any of these use hardware decoding or are they all still using software decoding?  Let's hear your thoughts, experience and knowledge on the issue so we can share with all Nexus 7 owners the best way to watch their movies and videos on their tablets.  Has anyone found the 'perfect' video player?

I use Vplayer as it will play my video clips from my camera without any re-coding etc.

I use MX Player, it can do both Hardware and Software decoding.

There's also Mobo Player and VLC which is in beta so might have limited functionality.

EDIT- Scratch VLC as it doesn't support Tegra chipsets ATM.

I use MX Player as well, but they could improve on the library front end.

I was a big fan of MX Player, but on some videos I've noticed stuttering when using hardware decoding.  They'd work fine with software decoding, but that makes the processor work harder and hence uses more battery.

I tried Dice player and it works great with hardware decoding, so MX Player is out for me now.
