Camera Question
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:20:52 AM »
Okay, I admit it.  I'm a dunce.

But I'd like to find out how to use the N7s camera.  I've had my N7 about 2 weeks now, read the manual, read the help files on Google's N7 site, and I just can't figure it out.

Everything I see says just "tap the camera icon" on your home page - but I don't HAVE a camera icon to tap.

Can anyone guide me through this, please?

I promise I'm a quick learner  :D

Thanks, Radio ... I'll look into that!

But am I missing something that makes the camera work  that should already be there without downloading an app?

You are not missing anything, Google elected not to include the camera launcher in Jellybean for the Nexus 7. So you have to download the launcher app.

Just to add to the above posts...

The forward facing camera is there primarily for video chat a la Google Talk, Skype etc.

The only native app I could find on the N7 that uses the camera is the Face Unlock option of the Screen Lock options under Settings->Security.

This is another Nexus 7 camera launcher, that works well. It gives you the ability to turn on your canera, just as the previously mentioned launcher does. Get it from Google Play Here.

Have you updated your Nexus to 4.1.2?  This update includes an app for launching the camera. Another solution is to use CameraJb+. Downloadable from Google play.  This app also enables 720p video recording, which the update to 4.1.2 does not.

Yes, I am on 4.1.2.
I must be missing something since all I bet is 'cannot connect to camera'
This appears on a screen which appears to have greyed-out camera controls.

What can I say,  ;),  my camera is working :-) .
I have tried it a dozen times and could only get the message
'Cannot connect to camera.
Last night I watched an hour long program on BBC iPlayer
And ran the battery flat. This morning I recharged it and started up with
The long routine from the Google logo. Looked at a couple of websites then tried
the camera! IT WORKED.

Isn't it ironic that in this modern high tech world this camera issue is like the really old fashion news reporter cameras of the 40s era (?) with the flash bulbs? lol, I'm referring to the fact that their view finder was a metal cross hare system, like a site on a rifle, not optical.  I always think of this when in sighting down my nexus and "aiming" at what photo I want to take.  Oh well, some things in life make me chuckle  :)
