Over the past week there have been growing reports that some 16GB models of the Nexus 7 might be experiencing some sort of glitch in which the entire OS slows down when there is less than about 3GB of storage available.   Now this low storage lag has been discussed on the Google Forums as well as XDA among others and it appears the only 'fix' is to do a factory reset of your device.   XDA has even done some benchmark comparisons of the Nexus 7 'before' and 'after'  the slowdown to give some hard numbers to the slowdown and there's definitely something going on.

Quote
Before factory reset:
SEQ RD: 17.83 MB/s
SEQ WR: 0.56 MB/s
RND RD: 1548.85 IOPS(4K)
RND WR: 33.0 IPOS(4K)

SQLite
Insert: 1.36 TPS
Update: 3.29 TPS
Delete: 3.17 TPS

After factory reset:
SEQ RD: 12.29 MB/s
SEQ WR: 7.8 MB/s
RND RD: 753.66 IOPS(4K)
RND WR: 74.12 IPOS(4K)

SQLite
Insert: 27.74 TPS
Update: 26.15 TPS
Delete: 28.92 TPS

Now there's no official word from the company as to what could be causing it and we'd expect that they're fully aware at this point of the problem.  Most likely it is something that will be fixed by a future software update so we wouldn't get too alarmed.  Still, we're curious if any forum members have experienced this 'slowdown' on their 16GB Nexus 7 units.  Let us know in the comments

CBers, I would love to have 3 GB of RAM, as well and thanks for pointing out the terminology error. BFM, is traveling today, so I have corrected it for him.

I have read about this slowdown around the net. I noticed a slowdown myself when I had loaded it with songs and media. I now keep it under 70% capacity and run fine most of the time. I still get laggy once and a while.

Yes I have had this slow down/lag, running a custom ROM ATM and I've tried not to cram my N7 with content like it was but getting close with only one album, two games and a couple dozens apps. :(

Sorry for the error guys.  Yes, I meant storage, not ram.  I've been traveling this week so have been writing the articles first thing in the morning and sometimes haven't had a chance to get back to the site until late.   Thanks for staying on top of it and thanks for the fix S. Prime.
