Gmail app and Google alerts -- not!
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:12:22 PM »
Hi,

I work in the publishing field, and I have a number of Google alerts set up for various books and authors. I wanted to check an alert in my inbox yesterday, had the N7 on, so used it to launch the Gmail app. I found the email alert, clicked on it, and all it did was refresh my inbox. Tried again, same response. I closed the app, and opened the Chrome app, to check my Gmail account through the browser. Opened email, found the alert, clicked on it -- the email opened, but it was blank! Literally, no content at all.

WTF? So I closed Chrome, opened the Firefox app (which I have just for the purpose of Flash access), signed in to my Gmail acct, found the email alert, opened it -- and there it was, the alert with all its content, including the active link to the book review.

I went to the Play Store, thinking I could contact the developer of the Gmail app, but no developer was listed. And the link to the Support site was worthless; just some useless FAQs -- no actual ability to contact anyone to tell them of this issue.

Anyhow, just wanted to share it here. I can't believe that a Google-created alert is unreadable by either of the Google apps. Glad I had Firefox available.

Unfortunately no all that is Google is compatible with Android and it's apps, I think this feature being included would depend largely on it's popularity and I am unaware of the demand for this feature.
I too wanted to contact Google about the Gmail application and draw a blank as you have, my complaint about it is the split screen view in portrait. Having decided the best thing I can do is leave a negative review on the Google Play store for the app and doing so I checked all reviews for the Nexus 7 and found many dissatisfied Nexus 7 Gmail app users who where as annoyed as me about this function or the lack of being able to turn it off.

Anyway, I hope you succeed in your bid to contact Google in reguard to this matter. Good luck.
