Closing cover doesn't stop battery draining
« on: September 28, 2012, 10:49:11 AM »
I purchased a cover for my N7. I can see that it is working to stop the screen display (and sleep?) when I close it because as I swing the cover into position within an inch of it closing the screen goes to black. And when I open it the screen takes a half second then comes back on.  That works.

But I think some apps may not be going to sleep when I shut the cover. I can shut the cover with a full battery charge and come back a day later and the battery is drained.  I haven't figured out which ones are causing the problem.  Definitely I saw this when I used an app to watch video from Twit.tv - there are a few apps out there for this and I'm not sure which one I was using.

Is there a trouble shooting technique that I could use to figure out if apps are using power when the cover is supposedly putting the N7 into sleep?

I'm sure you're right about apps not going to sleep; but are they designed to?  SMS, Weather, Email etc, apps poll regularly for new messages or alerts.   Weather Channel is always one of the top battery draining apps on my N7, and I seldom use it.   I'm not sure if there is anyway to prevent installed apps from actively updating\polling; but I haven't made finding it a priority.

Dead? Like in won't start? How much of your battery did you have before not using the device for a "day"? I am curious. I haven't noticed much battery drain when I wake my nexus up in the am but that is usually only 6 hours or so. If you go into settings/ battery I believe you can see what apps are using what.  Are you sure that this cover that you have is not part of the equation?
