Do you turn your Nexus off?
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:23:08 AM »
I never turn mine off except when something makes me do it, then I turn it right back on again. When I am not using it, I leave it idle, but still powered up.

Is there a line of thought on this that says whether this is a bad idea or not?

What do all of you do in this regard?

I pretty much never turn mine off except to reboot.  At night I leave it on and plugged in to charge.

Good question!

I've been turning my N7 off when not in use, primarily to save on battery usage and (perhaps) minimize security threats.  Of course leaving N7 "on" allows for instant start-up, which ids nice.
With my month-old N7 I'm currently getting in excess of 10 hours between 100% and 10% charge, with "typical" usage.  No bluetooth, wifi "off" when not needed.

Anyone have an idea of the added battery drain when N7 is "on" and idle for long intervals ?

The drain is minimal. It probably uses more juice being turned on and off.

I thought I'd already answered this question.  I turn mine off every two weeks when I do my computer/electronic stuff maintenance.
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?

I put mine in airplane mode when not using  it, and overnight. makes the battery go a lot longer before it needs a charge.

Please compare "Airplane Mode" and blanking the screen (and turning off other things?) by a momentary button press.

How are they different?

If you take the time to do an Internet search on Android or IOS devices, you will find many preferences and opinions on powering down vs sleep mode, but I have not found any definitive information stating that one is recommended over the other. I can share from my experience that I have used my two other tablets for over a year and only rebooted them when I felt it necessary. My suggestion is to go with your personal preference,  but for me I like the instant on option of allowing sleep mode.

I have, as have Prime and Tiny answered this question in another thread. I usually turn my N7 off if I'm not going to use it for a prolonged period, I'm working nights atm moment so it hasn't been off for a couple of days but my reasoning for powering down my N7 is personal a choice. I do it to conserve power, don't want to turn my N7 on to play a game or watch a movie and it be low on juice, especially if I'm watching a movie via a thumb drive.
As Prime said I don't think there is a right and wrong thing to do, I'd recommend powering down every few days even if it is for a short time because it clears temporary files such as caches but it's your device so it's what's best for you and your usage.

Its said to be a good idea to turn off any device like the n7.. your computer, cellphone, tablet, wifi router..  they all benefit from being turned off occasionally.. it increases performance.

I will give 94lt1 a "thumbs up" for the highlighted text in the quote.
