Reduced battery life.
« on: October 11, 2012, 11:06:12 PM »
When I first got my N7 (3 weeks ago) it had wonderful battery life. I could go 2-3 days with medium to heavy use just fine. Now that the excitement of a new device has worn off I am not using it as much.
The past couple of days I noticed a drastic change in my battery life. Now with minimal use I can possibly get 3 days at best. I have started keeping it in airplane mode and only turning on WiFi when needed but the problem seems to just keep getting worse. When I do charge my N7 it is over night so I'm not sure if maybe that was just taking a toll on the battery or what.

Any help or recommendations would be helpful. I have provided a screenshot of my power usage bellow.

Thanks,
Maverick

Just to note. My battery was at 51% when I started typing that post. It is now at 45%.

Whenever battery usage shows screen using less than 95%, I look at the apps that are running, and force stop the unnecessary ones. These battery hogs are typically Google data mining apps like media, maps, and Android system. One time it was Facebook, and after I closed that, a Facebook sub-app called Facebook.katana.

Your battery stats show some invisible process is using 30% of your battery.  Run OS Manager to see what you battery killer is.

Is OS manager a built in function? All I found on the market was is monitor. From what that is telling me, my CPU is being hogged by an app that. Have already deleted. It was an off market app so my guess is it left something behind when I uninstalled it.

My bad. It's OS Monitor,  as you deduced. Now you need to figure out how to stop that zombie application.

No idea how to do that. Nice name though. I like it.

Anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is a factory reset.

Even if you can remove the apparent code left by the app, do you really want to trust, that their app did not leave behind a sniffer or other rogue code. My suggestion is to do a factory reset and be sure that it is gone.

Can you check yours and see if there is one called system with like the picture? K used to have an app that had that name and symbol but it seems odd that it would be taking up the much of the CPU unless it was actually the system.

Mavericknman,

Yes, I have a system app with the same icon, & it uses ca. 5% of the cpu load.  I've seen Android system take 30% of the battery usage in the settings graphic.

You can kill a process in OS Manager by tapping on it, and choosing "Kill Process," but I agree with you & S.  Prime it's safer to do a factory reset.

I did a factory reset and the battery life seems about the same but my battery percentage seems a bit fishy....

Either you have a nuclear reactor powering yours or that is just wrong.

What does OS Monitor show? Something is still hogging your battery,as the screen should account for 98% of battery usage.
