Paranoid Android 2.20. lockup
« on: October 18, 2012, 08:02:01 PM »
I tried to install PA2.20 today, but it wouldn't go past the PA logo.  I. cleared the cache & the dalvik cache, & installed the gapps- still couldn't get past the PA logo.

Any tips or suggestions?

Flashing a ROM can cause hangups for all sorts of reasons. I've found a method that works for most ROMs to clear those hangups.  You do need to have backups of your apps unless you restore them manually. This is the process for ClockworkMod Recovery.

Format data and cache, format cache, go to mounts and format system, go back, go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, go back.
Install zip from sd card.  go to downloads and select desired ROM.

Reboot.

I always factory data reset first then format system, flash ROM and wipe cache and dalvik cache before rebooting.

Thanks, loocid & Jay. I cleared those areas, and got into PA2:20 OK. Looks nice, but I am back to 4.1.2 now, as PA 2.20 looks like it will take a while to set up.

I liked it but decided on a 7" tab, it was more novelty than actually useful...
I suggest starting with probably the most famous custom ROM on the planet and that's CyanogenMod, it's got just the right number of tweaks and mods IMHO like statusbar notification count, battery percentage, notification widgets, customizable lockscreen shortcuts amongst others.

I'm running on PA2.20 again. I don't like the notification bar location in the lower right corner, as it blocks access to many apps' menu icons.

Try the Bugless Beast ROM out for a spin.  Let us know what you think..

I like it. It loads fast, and is minimalist.

I took Bugless Beast off, too. It removed the Google books reader, & I decided it was not really faster than 4.1.2.

Most custom ROM's don't include the likes of Maps, Street View, Drive, Books etc so just install from the Play store...

I'm on Bugless right now, and it seems alright.  Nothing special, no frills, but stable.  JJ is accurate in themethod of flashing ROMs, it is by far the cleanest way to do it.  Dirty flashes are effective, but begging for problems since reminents of the former rom exists, and generally don't play nice with the new ROM.

I'm back to running PA, v. 2.50. I like its variety of customization choices. I was able to find the stock ui launcher, which places the status bar up at the top and out of the way so I can see and use the menus of all my apps
