How to transfer music, mp3's, etc from Nexus to mp3 player?
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:32:47 PM »
Or another device I suppose.

I have a cable I got for 83 cents that can connect the nexus to the Sylvania. And the Sylvania MP3 player recognizes a connection and begins charging from the nexus 7. But that's not what I want, and the things I thought would send the song to the MP3 player just did other things instead.

What application are you using on the nexus to transfer the files? Does the Nexus recognize the mp3 player? This sounds like software fix, but you probably need to be rooted.

Do you want to go directly from the Nexus to the Sylvania via cord connection?  If not, you could use the computer as your interface, then drag and drop from one to the other.

Is your N7 rooted? If so then go download stickmount and file manager from the play store. Stick mount will allow your N7 to recognize it and then use file manager to find your MP3 player folder. When n file manager you will need to find a file called SD card or something of that sort.

If your not rooted... well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

EDIT: reread your post. This should work for taking files from your MP3 to your N7 but I'm not sure about the other way around.

Mavrickman360 is accurate.  I don't think you can go from the N7 to anything without the computer interface, to my knowledge.

It is worth noting that the Nexus 7 uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) rather than the traditional windows file management, that we are all use to, therefore you will experience varying degrees of success with file transfers. I am working on an article explaining the reasoning behind Google's choice of MTP.

The obvious point is, you must be rooted in order to transfer files from your N7 to any other device. It's a one - way street until you root.

The second point is, your cable must be a USB-OTG type.

1. Nope, not rooted. I've been wary of that and possible consequences given my tech ignorance.

2. The cord is OTG, yes. I really an amazon review claiming the guy could read files straight from his USB stick using it.

3. Yes, I want to go straight from nexus to MP3 player, if possible. My computer is inoperable.

As I said, it's a one-way street until you're rooted.  You can read <from< devices with your unrooted N7, but you can't write >to> them until you're rooted.

I know I am stating the obvious but isn't the Nexus a damn good vehicle to use as a Media Player? Why move the stuff and how did it get there to begin with?

The forum guide to rooting is Here, but as loociddreemr stated, a search from the forum's home page would have quickly provided this information.
