Possible to disable autorotate for home screen only?
« on: November 04, 2012, 07:56:46 AM »
OK, I am the ONE weird guy who likes the home screen in portrait mode only. Is there any way to set this, but still allow other screens to rotate. My N7 is NOT rooted.

I don't know if it's the same on a stock N7,but on my rooted N7 running Paranoid Android 2.50, I can toggle auto - rotation in >settings >launcher >auto-rotation.

You need that rotation app from the play store. It let's you set rotation /landscape for whatever app screen you choose.

Thanks. I tried the rotation app but it seemed to make the screen laggy. Guess I will just learn to live with it :-)

You'll (OP) get what you want with Android 4.1.1. Just stay with, or go back to, that OS.

You could try a 3rd party launcher like Apex, Nova or Holo launcher as they all have the settings to disable the homescreen rotation.

4.1.1 allowed you to autorotate apps and all views except the home screen (what the OP wants), and it's available from Google.

It's a hassle but you can lock the home screen with the little lock in the notification box and unlock it when you need to.

The OP isn't rooted and if the OP's Nexus 7 has been updated to 4.1.2 I would think flashing the factory image is a little more than the OP would like to do so other alternatives like rotation control or 3rd party launchers are probably the best and easiest course.
