I am trying that now, I will let you know the results. I used Nexus 7 toolkit to root it and it said it did but some of the apps said I wasnt rooted or couldnt get root. rootkeeper said I was rooted. I tried to mount a usb drive using stickmount and I couldnt find it. I will let you know what happens. I was also wondering if I should relock it then unlock and root it as I did the first time.  Thanks for you help!

Stickmount is currently not working in 4.2, but the developers are working on it.

I'm glad you told me that. I finally got everything going. I flashed to 4.1.2. Then installed rootkeeper. When I used NRT I got the same results. Suck at waiting on reboot. But I noticed this time when I rebooted myself that su was on the tablet. So I used N7 toolkit again and it worked. I backed up with rootkeeper, updated and restored root. I did various checks to verify and everything says I'm rooted. Stickmount was the onyl thing tht did not work. It would see the drive but not the files so I will wait for an unpdate. Thanks so much for your help! Have a great day!

Glad you sorted it mate.

That is the problem with Stickmount and 4.2, as you say it will see the thumb drive but cannot access the content.

Voodoo OTA RootKeeper will let you know if your rooted as will Titanium Backup, there are also apps on the GP store that check for root but if you have apps like Voodoo or Titanium you don't need another app just to check for root.
