Folded directories into themselves
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:01:17 AM »
I interrupted TWRP during Nandroid backups, thinking that the system had hung on a caching partition step. Then I noticed I had lost my CWM backups and some other directories . More investigation finds I have a new directory in sdcard named 0 that contains 15 items, among them another 0 directory containing 62 items, one of them being my missing CWM directory.

The 0 directory doesn't actually exist in sdcard. It's actually a subdirectory of /storage/emulated/

Does anyone know the best way to salvage my data? If I delete the 'emulated' directory, will I lose my CWM backups? I only have 650mb storage free, so I think I should try to copy the Clockworkmod directory to my PC, delete the 4.7gb 'emulated' directory, copy CWM back, and restore to a previous setup. If I reformat my sdcard, will I lose the Clockworkmod directory? If I don't reformat sdcard, will the 'emulated' directory remain?

I have not fully explored the new multi user structure, but you are seeing its results.

I had a similar issue with Titanium. Right after the update, i went to restore my apps and all my backups were gone. I realized the emulated directory and had to change the destination folder in the settings. All good...

Thanks Prime & Loocid,  I didn't realize this is normal.  So, it looks like I just need to delete the existing CWM backup done after the 4.2 upgrade, move the older CWM directory where the recent one resided, and I should be good to make another 4.2 Nandroid.

I'm still going to back up on my PC first.  I broke my USB-OTG cable, so I don't have access to my flash drive backups.  It sounds like I wouldn't be able to access my flash drive anyway, without Stickmount working, unless I mounted the flash drive partitions in Linux with a terminal emulator.

Bird, you may want to do some research into issues with CWM recovery and the 4.2 multiuser structure. I read that they were working on the issues, but I did not have time to digest the entire article. Also, Superuser has major issues with 4.2, but Super SU appears ok.

Will do, Prime.  BTW, which part of GA are you from?  I met my wife when I was living & working in Brunswick on the SE GA coast.
