Here is a link to the open source.

https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/bluetooth/bluedroid/+/android-4.2.1_r1

The Bluetooth module was changed, but only to allow driver support for wireless controller. Not a bug fix.

Thanks loociddreemr but thanks like a forgotten language, what's an HID gamepad/joystick?

"When trying to pair a HID gamepad with bluedroid, the pairing fails
with the 'Type of device not supported' error. This patch adds
HID gamepads and joysticks to the list of supported HID devices."

This is the information available from the open source library.

According to this bluetooth is fixed:
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/android-4-2-1-update-brings-back-december-fixes-bluetooth-50009859/

Also if you were running a custom rom/and or kernel your device may have got the ota pushed to it but unless you ended up with 4.2.1 in the about section of your tablet you don't have it installed. I had thought mine installed and ran into this issue.

I also have noticed a bit of an uptick in stock performance according to Quadrant Standard and Antutu but screen flicker still comes and goes on my device app dependent which is strange because I don't use auto-brightness.

That article, as well as the notes on the source code only describe one Bluetooth fix among many that are floating around.

I just tapped check for updates and got it 4.2.1 . It is much smaller than the 4.2 update installed very quickly.

I've got it and can proudly announce that the BT problem is much worse. Streaming Spotify from wifi to a BT speaker is virtually unbearable. I am sad now :(
