Stock browser disappeared after upgrade to 4.2
« on: November 19, 2012, 01:57:17 PM »
Good day. Has anyone else lost their stock browser (icon and application) after upgrading to 4.2?
We have also lost the ability to use Kaspersky Mobile, and a few other apps. I have also noticed a slight occasional screen flicker.

I called Kaspersky (India) and spent two hours on the phone with them only to be told that they don't support tablets!!!! The software we purchased is specifically for Android phones and tablets. They told me to go to Asus's site. I did that, but could not find anything relative to the Nexus 7!

I thank you in advance for any help you might give.

The stock browser on the Nexus 7 has always been Google Chrome. Do you not have Chrome?

IMHO . Smoking curry can be bad for your health.
Which browser are you referring to as stock? You should have a big Chrome icon on your launcher bar. The blue, green ,yellow and red Circle. If not on your bar in your list of apps. As far as your antivirus, the new update is going to take some time to settle.

Personally I have found large developers very difficult to communicate with when it comes to android applications, often your put through to a department than know nothing about your query and what they do know they are reading of a computer screen anyway.
I use Kaspersky on my PC, honestly, only because I get it free and find it works well and doesn't clog my laptop up like Norton.
My girlfriend has it on her S2 (ICS 4.0.4) and it constantly crashes, not worth having when your spend more time force stopping it than having it working.

If you want to contact then I would suggest an email to this email address, it should go through to a department that knows what it's talking about.

mobilesupport@kaspersky.com

As for the stock browser, if you are indeed talking about Chrome, try looking on the Google Play store. Open the Play store and press the downward arrow in the top right corner, this will open your installed applications. Check to see if Chrome is there, if it is it's installed.
If it'd not, search for it and install it manually...

I have the tablet version as well. I domt use it but checked qnd it looks like It isnt compatible right now. Most of the support people seem like they aren't even aware about the new update of Jellybean yet. They  pretty much are no help unless it is on the script in front of them or have been thru the issue numerous times. The new update is going to take some patience to get rolling like you were used to. There are a lot of folks struggling with different issues. It is all part of the growing pains and agreeing to update your device.

Tell me about it.  I went to bed last night with a soft-bricked N7, and was not at all confident I could ever get it running again.

I literally would not be able to sleep until I got it to at least boot.

Sleep while bricked? My girl would still be pissed for me being up all night. You must be one of those relaxed West Coast dudes.

I was tired, and afraid I'd make the situation worse by making a BIG mistake while on the brink of exhaustion.  I woke up refreshed and rested, with new ideas to try.

Ok so everyone has had the same problem as i had,,,with Kaspersky, i even called them In USA, woburn Mass, I may never use them again,  in my lap top either,  i did have it once, then wiped my "7" and re inserted everything, it then would not accept it again, so i now use a thing called Lookout, it works great, Until ??
