New 4.2.1 issue?
« on: December 04, 2012, 12:56:35 PM »
Hello....

My N7 was updated toward the end of last week to 4.2.1.

Since then, the N7 has spontaneously rebooted at least 10 times that I am aware of. It will reboot in the middle of a game (CrossMe Color), while I'm in a web browser (Chrome), and once when I was simply swiping from one home page to another.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Martyh, sorry to hear of your Nexus woes. Personally I've had zero issues since updating to Android 4.2.1, it could be a rogue application causing this issue so.... you could try clearing their cache, uninstalling some apps or worse case scenario would be a factory data reset...

JayJ,

If the reboots were happening only while I was in the same app each time, or doing the same thing, then I could see where the problem lies -- and uninstall and reinstall the app, or even delete it completely, or contact whomever to report the prob. But the reboots are completely inconsistent, alas....

Cheers,

I have a similar problem Marty. Mine is rebooting at least once a day. I figure a new update will be coming soon so I am just staying as patient as I can.

So this issue has been possibly linked to using HD widgets. Can anybody confirm or deny that?

Generally random reboots come from the ram being filled up. Check to see what all apps are running and how big they are. Check your cached process and see what's happening there. You can also clear all of your cached process and that may help.

I have HD Widgets installed, but then bjs229 is having the same/similar prob and doesn't have the app installed. So, who can say....

Thanx for the suggestion, fxsarge, I'll keep an eye on what apps are running. I think I read that the 4.2 update allows you to clear cache for all the apps at one time, rather than having to access each app individually.

Speaking of the updates: I find I'm now having to login again whenever I access an Amazon app. This was happening after 4.2, but then Amazon released an update to their Appstore app. Now with 4.2.1, I'm now having to login again every new session.

I also dropped mine in the street. So some of my findings right now could be flawed.

If you check all the current reviews for HD Widgets on the play store, a lot of nex7 users are complaining about this. Some say that turning off gps helps. It's apparently a problem with Googles lock widgets and should be addressed in the next update. However, HD Widgets is the worst hit on this. There are some threads on the xda dev site. I would disable until an update on os or app if it gets too aggravating. Hope it's fixed soon. Sarge is correct on the lack of free mem causing problems, but that is usually a force close. I've had one reboot so far. Knock on head.

Scroll down to comment six for another possible solution.
Google issue thread.

Recap: turn off gps and all location services. Or per comment nine, disable location in HD Widgets only.

My GPS is much more important to me than another clock and the weather that I am already out in.

Matt -

Thanx for this link... I read comment six, and then kept on reading. I don't currently use GPS so that's already turned off, so l disabled the auto loc function in HD Widgets. We shall see how it goes now....

Thanx again.

I run HD WIDGETS on my N7 and have never had a crash.

Also run it on my Nexus 10 and S3 without issue.
