Using Chrome on the Nexus how can I open a link mentioned on the page I am reading in a new tab?

If I tap the link it overwrites the current page which I don't want to happen.

Much easier if I could right click a mouse!

If you long-press on the link, you get a mini menu pop up, and one of the options is open link in new tab.
